Re: Valve float ?

You can try a simple method by trying to unseat the locks from the retainer while on the engine. If you can easily break them loose with a hammer tap at most you are ok. If you need a BFH to break them loose, you have floated them. Good advise... If you buzz the valvetrain the locks will stick in t...

Re: Valve float ?

I see the cross pattern on my valves most of the time and dont worry about it, if its not hurting valvetrain parts its probably not floating the valves. We had valve control problems a while back and it will really tear things up, switched to Ti valves and our problems went away... still running 300...

Re: Thought On Turbocharged Camshafts

Just a thought...if you switched from gas to alky you can now handle more CR, that will wake it up.

Re: WHAT SPRING PRESSURES FOR THIS CAM

I have a similar setup, slightly larger solid roller on a blown SBC, and went with Pacalloy dual springs, 250# at 2.00", 770# at 1.2". At my max lift (~.700) pressure is ~720. These are 1.550" springs. I have seen too many people have hard-to-diagnose high rpm issues that turned out ...

I have seen OEM rods where the bolt head has sunk into the shoulder,on engines that have had a hard life

None of mine do. Bolt-washer-aluminium.

Re: 400 Build

First off I'm gonna say, I dont know crap about steel aftermarket rods...But I dont get the (soft metal) under the bolt head deforming deal. I run a good billet aluminium rod with L-19's, they get torqued to 90ft-lbs with oil. If my (aluminium) under bolt head material is harder than your steel....W...

Re: Inspecting oil/cutting oil filter

How often we change oil, thats quite a question. We dont have a set amount of passes, I change it when... I feel it has too much alcohol in it. Most of the time after a pass I pull the valve covers off and plug in an oil heater, that lets all that water and alcohol evaporate off instead of condensin...

Re: Can heads be to large if the engine is supercharged?

Yes and no. Having an overly large runner wont really hurt anything, it may run better with a bigger runner but you will probably never notice the differance, blowers are good at making those little things like head-cam size...not so important. In my opinion however, the head that best matches the U...

Re: Inspecting oil/cutting oil filter

The only reason to have a System 1, looking for metal. I'm curious, which filter do you use 30, 45 or 75 microns? I have the 75 micron, to keep full flow with the heavy oils we use. I just pulled out bearings that had been it for two years and had very little trash in them, clean enough for me to ke...

Re: Inspecting oil/cutting oil filter

It looked pretty clean to me...we are in two different worlds though. I check my filter every couple passes. The only reason to have a System 1, looking for metal.

I dont get worried unless I see bearing material, or alot of metal flakes. It makes aluminium dust pretty fast.

I would be interested in seeing a Caterpiller oil in the mix, seems to me they do alot of oil testing and development.

Re: Making main bearings

Ampco is a fine bearing material...but yes, it is very hard compared to other bronzes, maybe too hard for your app. It is also tougher to machine than other bearing bronzes but can be worked with just fine with good sharp tools at the right speeds.
