Re: fresh rebuilt engine not wanting to start

I've used Brakleen.....starting fluid........carb cleaner....... It's a tiny amount SPRAYED into the carb (not directly into the engine) probably h1/3 of it evaporates before the ignition fires it. Did you mess with the timing chain at all? Check the firing order AGAIN ! Did you drop any of the plug...

Re: Did the SBC 406" die with BigJoe1 ??

Ford guy thoughts......
406 for-the-win!
As far as the thin walls and crack prone 400.......why not do a partial fill to stiffen things some ?!
A half filled block should work OK on the street with maybe an oil cooler! right?! (asking-for-a-friend!)
I miss Big Joe's wisdom too

Re: Welding iron head

Can you drill a hole at the end of the crack to STOP IT from continuing to spread? I would drill hole(s) at end of crack Clean it with wire wheel/acetone Grind a shallow groove along the crack Using a rosebud...bring temp up to minimum of 250* along big area of the crack. As soon as its 250*+ start ...

Re: Does increase in compression always mean more power

We used to make 15.0:1 pistons for small block Chevys (in the Carter Administration). They were for gas mileage. The cams had a boat load of overlap. Wasn't that a Bruce Crower deal?!! How DID that high compression /big cam experiment go?! (prolly not so well or I woulda remembered the details!) Do...

Re: Cleaning Combustion Chambers: Quick Question

Wire wheel horror story! By accident I used a wire wheel with straight wires in my pneumatic angle grinder. With safety glasses AND a full face shield. Working outside in sub freezing temp I was 'wire-wheeling' an Alum. weld. Several of the wires flew off and stuck into my left ear lobe!!! (28 degre...

Re: Lifter rise at TDC

Great you gave us the name of the cam grinder!!! Now........we get to deal with the clown. Somebody that has that kind of attitude needs to be made public. Plenty of other grinders(like Mike) who give that 'little bit extra' to his customers that we can buy from. Give out the name or....were you jus...

Some lower-end dirt track 'rules' call for 4 valve reliefs
My question is....why such low CR when using E-85?
I would think a minimum of 11:1 should be considered!
Jus ax'en!

There's a sweeet lil 63 Fairlane(Young Blood) that competes in the SEGA (South Eastern Gassers Assoc.) That leaves & shifts at 10 grand! At 19 years old he wins A LOT! He claims its a FoMoCo block but ....they have 'plenty' of $$$ spread throughout the rest of the car. That thing makes my 'ears ...

Re: offset wrist pins

The same as SBF engines?!
Old trick was to swap pistons from side-to-side to improve angle of piston-to-crank pin.
Pick up a few HP with the cost of a little more noise on cold crank up. (no big deal when running headers!)

Have the same rusty water problem.
I did the white vinegar flush (drove it around about a week and drained it. Now use distilled water and antifreeze.
Only problem now is..........every time I drive the truck.........I want a salad!!!

What's not to like?
Well assembled SCAT stuff should perform just fine at 6000 RPM. IMHO
Now 7000+..........might increase the pucker factor.

2" spacer....waste of time/$$??

My pardoner has a 74 Nova...3.73:1 gear....turbo 350...383 stroker...650 DP Holley...."healthy" street roller cam (hydraulic)...gear drive...the whole 9 yards. He's thinking a 2" open spacer will make a big difference in power/torque/butt-O-meter power. I'm kinda  ...no so sure....

Sorry......missed the two little ls letters!
I was sorta poking fun at such a tiny post with NEAR zero info about what OP was running.
