Re: Abradable Powder Coating- Piston Skirts

I believe these are now offered from Wiseco and JE and are on some off-the-shelf pistons. https://blog.jepistons.com/a-look-at-je-perfect-skirt-coating-and-how-it-compares-to-other-coating-types GM uses it on LS9 supercharger rotors.https://www.adandp.media/articles/gms-ls9-v8-life-under-pressure BW...

Re: When Should Piston Pins be DLC coated?

From what i have heard from very reputable engine builders when you run a vacuum in the oil system you need to run the coated pins to avoid galling/pickup,this is on endurance applications maybe a drag race deal it might not be as critical ?? I have used the coated jesel lifters with a dry sump sys...

Re: How Important is Piston Weight to Performance?

A lot of guys don't grasp the difference between strength and stiffness ... #-o Better alloys buy you increased "cycle life" . Pin diameter, wall thickness , and length , determine "modulus of elasticity" ( stiffness) . A stiff pin in a "common alloy" (5100) will also ...

Re: Cleveland road race cam - 2nd opinion required

I don't understand why someone would use the CHI 2V instead of one of the 3V heads which start at a small displacement friendly 185cc and include the KAASE C400. http://www.chiheads.com.au/product-category/heads/

When Should Piston Pins be DLC coated?

I've heard it is beneficial when used with a dry sump oil system, especially if there is significant vacuum. Is that correct? How big a difference is it? They seem to be $30-$50 per pin ($240-$400 per set) more expensive.

Are there any other times it is beneficial?

Re: How Important is Piston Weight to Performance?

Are the pistons made just for the 49cc dart heads? When I was angle milling a lot of heads, the Mahle valve relief did not line up very good with the new valve placement. This cost us some c/r.I had thought about ordering pistons with no relief and cutting them myself to get max c/r.I think getting t...

Re: Very light weight piston pin

The only reason I am at the .002 pin bore is because trhe vacuum pumps tend to cause pin problems and the extra clerance was the fix. Sorry about the missunderstanding JOE SHERMAN RACING This was a very interesting thread. It pointed out the difference between stiffness which affects bending and te...

Re: How Important is Piston Weight to Performance?

I had forgotten the effect on balancing because of the increased bobweight. Otherwise, the new thin rings and a lighter pin would have taken weight off.

Re: Flywheel weights - MOI- What is it all worth?

Flywheels are relatively easy to calculate the MOI of; they are just a flat disk. The clutch can be thought of the same way, more or less. The easiest way to calculate the power is to determine the energy at the start point and end point, then take the difference and divide by the time it took to ac...

Is this also a street car? Where the other components, including the cam and redline, from the rules? What type of rev range does it need?

Re: How Important is Piston Weight to Performance?

What is the horsepower this engine will produce ? JOE SHERMAN RACING It is about 450hp. I expect to be over 500hp with changes that include going from a flat tappet to mechanical roller cam, a stiffer valvetrain with shaft rockers, an angle-milled 18 year old Bowtie head to the Dart 49cc Iron Eagle...

Re: Roller Valve Springs

What is low cost? You are requesting a rather low spring rate, using your open and closed pressures (~460lbf/in, not the 500 specified). A Comp 935 has about the specs you are looking for. A bit over $300/set.

How Important is Piston Weight to Performance?

Here is the genesis of the question. A Saturday night 355 SBC 2-bbl super late model, 7200-7400 rpm max. Mechanical roller cam, 12:1 compression. Dry sump. Adding Dart 49cc heads, which are at 21.5°. So far I've found two off the self pistons, one from Diamond with 1/16, 1/16, 3mm rings. The other f...

Re: Shaft Rockers for 49cc Dart Iron Eagle

I talked with Crower. They recommend a stainless shaft rockers. They are also recommend a lot more offset than Jesel or TD, .350" vs .170" on the TD.

Re: Shaft Rockers for 49cc Dart Iron Eagle

Talked with TD; they said there was an issue with the early (not sure how early, the heads have been around over 12 years) heads but no longer an issue.

Both TD and Jesel said their current rockers with work. The TD rockers are OEM'd by Comp Cams.
