Re: Crane adjustable ratio rockers?

I ran those on a race engine that I built in the 1984-5, never a problem worked great for decades. I probably still have a half set rat holed in my shop attic somewhere. :D

Re: Hex-a-just timing set failure

I just spoke with my friend Adam... I'm going to try to get over to his place Tuesday night to help him pull the motor and do an inspection. He's thinking bent valves, too. With an 8,500 rpm chip bad stuff happens fast. Guaranteed some bent valves, likely some valves, push rods and maybe a lifter o...

Re: Carb too small?

An easy try is to lower the float level a touch. My carb is too small per class rules and float level/fuel pressure are very touchy with my engine. Seems to change the top much more than bottom/mid range. The metering blocks are custom though which likely makes a difference as well

Re: Max valve lift engine rules

Yep, need to get them open quick and dwell at max lift long as possible. Within valvetrain limits of course. Light valves, retainers, locks, small diameter springs are you friend if allowed

Re: MSD 6T analog box and alky?

I ran one two years ago and didnt miss a lick, a good friend of mine refused to run anything but. He tried the newer stuff a couple times and it would always dump on him

Re: Torque peak SBC

I have my dyno sheet from a similar engine had more intake lift near .700. Torque peak 6000. Hp peak 6900. Pulled to 7600 with only a single digit hp fall off

Re: Over Machined intake Manifold Help

Use right stuff sealant if the ends are fairly high above the block, it will actually cure up to 1” gap unlike regular silicones.
I have made aluminum spacers for this application as well. Drilled and tapped the manifold and mounted with flat head screws, silicone in between.

Re: Spark plug protrusion vs chamber volume

Meaningful in compression ratio not really. Meaningful in a limited class where there is a cc minimum on head chambers likely if you are right on the number.

Re: 49cc chamber dart head

Back in the 80's we could get the iron Bowtie heads down to 50cc and still get away with the standard 5cc relief flat top pistons with the cams we were running. The Dart uses the Mahle 21* flat top piston that has 9cc valve relief volume so that is a consideration as well. The Dart is a way better h...

Re: 49cc chamber dart head

How would that little amount milled at an angle change the valve angle to 21.5? Or take 23 cc's of volume out? That don't seem to jive out. It would take .140 or so roughly off with a flat mill to get there...
From Dart Tech Sheet:
Angle mill .125” safely / .200” = 49cc 1.5° (carefully)

Re: 49cc chamber dart head

I run a set of 49cc 215 Platinum Darts, rules are out of the box. They will make some real power with a good valve job, the factory job sucks. No room to mill more than just a skim and like Pro Power said the rocker deal is a PIA, I tried 2 different types of stud mount and wasn't happy with either ...

I have used 1/8" gaskets before, also you can make aluminum spacers if it is real bad.

Re: Engine Masters rod ratio test results

It's all combination, they both will work just like different things. In a wide open no holds barred build rod length would be way down the list for me. In a limited class rule type deal it can move substantially up the list in my opinion. Just swapping out rods and not optimizing the build is a was...
