Re: are ball adjusters more reliable than cup adjusters

My thought is if I am restricting top end oiling through the pushrod I would like the cup on the pushrod as an oil reservoir per se to keep that pressure point well lubed. Might not matter but if I'm ordering shaft rockers I just prefer that situation, makes me feel warm and fuzzy :P

Re: Cylinder Rust Quandry

This is just from the race gas. It's so dry the cylinders rust. Big issue on dirt track cars, they race them throw them in the trailer and pull the plugs a couple days later and they will be rusty. If using race gas it has to be fogged if it sits at all or it will flash rust the cylinders. Probably...

Re: Big Joe pontiac 301 stroker build

Very cool! Back in 1983 I had a 78 Pontiac Grand Prix that started knocking. I pulled the 301 for a rebuild and didn't realize what a turd that 301 was. After looking at the situation I decided to get rid of the 301 heads and put 350 heads on it. Went to the junk yard and procured a set of heads, du...

Re: Dimpling a LS port

injector placement and as much important is Injector "spray direction" inside Cyl Head Intake Port was worth a lot of HP A machinist friend of mine built his own individual tube injection and used the 90 degree Ron's deflector nozzles with it. He picked up substantial power by turning the...

Re: Dimpling a LS port

This was done as an internet exercise that followers could make suggestions, Eric would do them, flow the head and see what happened to AIR FLOW on the bench. It wasn't about let's do this and prove it is better or makes more horsepower just what happened to flow and his opinion why it happened. I f...

Re: Projected-tip spark plug benefits?

Way back I was racing a class with a 265 Chevy under "stock" rules. I was reading one of the Hot Rod type magazines and there was an article with a 331" Chevy build that was using surface gap plugs that came in Mercury Outboards. The engine picked up power from the usual plugs by movi...

Re: Dry Sump Tank issue

Hey Bill, That Spintric sounds pretty slick, I have an Oberg around here so I will try plumbing that in before buying something else, come to think of it the dyno oil tank has one and never saw anything out of that tank at all. Adding a 2nd breather line to the tank should slow the velocity some as ...

Re: Dry Sump Tank issue

Thanks all. No Oberg in the return line I went with 10" vacuum as there was less than 1% hp gain between 10 and 21+ figured I'd rather be safer with all the "possible" issues I run a logger which shows vacuum at all times when running so the number is accurate My back up engine has a ...

Re: Dry Sump Tank issue

The oil level is actually set on the low side for testing in the tank I ran for seasons with a different pump The bypass has to be continually open, it is set at 10" and the pump will pull 21" with everything plugged up Yes I could get away with a smaller pump but this is what was spec for...

Dry Sump Tank issue

OK, I have a 6 stage pump on my 360" oval engine, 4 from pan and 1 in valley. Two -16 fittings come out of the scavenge and into a manifold to one -16 into the tank. Pulling vacuum obviously with a break to limit it to acceptable levels. My problem is with both tanks I am blowing oil out of the...

Re: chain auto parts stores vs internet sellers

For the most part the local parts places around me do not stock the old antiquated SBC type stuff I work on, I was looking for a timing cover gasket for an SBC a few months ago. No we don't have it here, can get it for you tomorrow for $17 and change with no seal. That's ok, I'm not interested in wa...

Re: Intake Valve Diameter Reducing?

Use the margin to your advantage. If there's plenty of valve to piston clearance, you can use it to bump the compression ratio a tiny bit if needed. If you plan on refreshening it often, the valves will last through a couple more valve jobs. If you value a lightweight valve train more, cut them dow...

No reason why you couldn't, the fuel side will stay the same though making it richer on top end. That could be tailored with a high speed bypass
