Re: Driven break in oil

Pics of the other rods bearings?

Running any more rpm than previously with the same rods?

Re: piston weight

There is a good Honda white paper from their V8 F1 engine about piston design, and them cracking due to the rpm’s they were running at the time. No, cracking was due to them not designing the piston properly to handle the rpm in the first place The white paper was toilet paper, used to clean up the...

Re: Blueprint Engines Shop Tour Video

Surprised these weren't noticed -

Block main bores are not called main journals, and if you get bloody hands installing rings you are doing it wrong.

It can be any brand, as long as it's a usable core.

Let me know.

Thanks

Re: Valve Springs too Much?

Looking for some advice on valve springs for a sbc. Putting together a 11:1 iron vortec headed solid roller thing for a crazy street car, looking at a comp 12-773-8 solid roller with a 977-16 spring. An answer from comp on Summit’s site suggested this: For street use, 120-140 lbs closed valve sprin...

Re: tapered end connecting rods

Was used by Roush in their NASCAR stuff back in the 90's, the piston inner pin bosses were tapered to follow the shape of the rod small end.... Made for a stronger deck in the piston, due to a reduced pin boss span in the piston undercrown. Rod small end widths, and therefore piston pin boss spans a...

Re: Lighter valve train

Hi all, i have located a cam lifter that are 30 grams less ( 53g total weight). I’m thinking of running less valve seat pressure to free up more horse power. These motors (spec formula single seaters) i build are flat fours with a lifter, push, rocker assembly. My seat pressure is 68 lb as these thi...

Re: Lighter valve train

Spin data is great, up until the engine is put in the vehicle and encounters g forces.

It's just like any other tool, take it with a grain of salt.

Observing valve train wear will point you in the direction you want to go.

Re: valve spring open pressure

There is software out there to do this. While I don't have the software and don't know the name for it, I have had this calculated for me. You do have to know the component weight and cam profile. This is the form I filled out for it. Software is just a prediction, real world can be different and u...

Re: valve spring open pressure

Depending on spring rate, open pressure can vary widely, and not enough or too much spring rate can both cause issues.

With more information, I can give a recommendation, if interested send me a PM

Re: Ring Package

Where NHRA Stockers are concerned, more than one ring in a ring groove has never been the best path to performance - 1. The top ring is moved down by spacer thickness, not good for hp. 2. The spacers are not as flat as they should be, not good for hp. Best results come from back cutting OE width ri...

Re: 4.365 Oil Ring in 4.370 Bore

All I can find is standard tension oil rings for my 4.370 bore. They are 3/16. I can however find lots of choices for a 4.365 bore. What would happen if I ran a 23 lb ring for a 4.365 bore in a 4.370 bore? Or a 18 lb? The second ring will be a napier for a 4.365 bore. No vacuum pump. Just a pan eva...
