Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit
for those in australia, who can remember the fake "torque-power" clone vn head intake manifolds being sold with the "torque" ground off but "power" remaining on the runner?

Re: cam & lifter issues?
...wear a groove in two lifters (not rotating). Same lobe and/or lifter each time, spin free in the bores? They've absolutely positively gotta move, even cranking it over by hand, though that sticky assembly lube might stop/slow it down it till diluted. If they don't move, every one, don't even bot...

Re: Double headgaskets?
about 20 years ago i re-blocked a good running small v8 engine into its larger capacity brother - to use the same heads i had to decompress as it had been a methanol engine also, i was street driving it. i used 2 composite aftermarket head gaskets as the "bread" and used a factory steel sh...

Re: Small stem diameter stainless valves
here in Australia the ford OHC inline 6 went from 11/32 to 7mm stems in late 1997 - these are a 1.85" and 1.53" valve - however I'm unsure on the grade of material used. Have never seen or heard of any failures but in factory tune theyre not what you would call a high revving engine. I oft...

Re: Sunnen engine honing 1949
Anyone who's hand-honed a block hopes never to have to do it again. Yes, it can produce really good results, but it's really hard work. I hand-honed for over 30 years. Yet my arms are not like Popeye's. Im only about 12 years in, but still skinny. I am quite strong, just dont show it. My brother do...

Re: Sunnen engine honing 1949
I still hone by hand - I toyed with the idea of upgrading but cost and loss of floorspace, and the fact I'm not doing 5 a week had me decide to keep it as-is Currently only doing blocks that I build myself for customers, I lost way too much time doing rebore/hone for customers that assemble their ow...

Re: Knock in bottom end at idle only, help with diagnosis
FWIW. Back when I knew little but thought otherwise I assembled an AMC 360/390 with PAW (long gone Performance Automotive Warehouse) parts. It had a nearly inaudible tick at idle. After several attempts to locate the issue my upset friend took it to a professional for diagnosis. The results were po...

Re: Question About Sleeving A Block
i fit plenty of sleeves, but certainly wouldnt call myself an expert compared to the gents here. if i am fitting a sleeve as a repair to a bore in an otherwise good running engine, i shoot for 1 thou interference to keep bore distortion on the cylinder/s next to the sleeve to a bare minimum. if i am...

Re: mini a series 998cc pistons and rings
yep i agree 100% that is clearly the best way, however this is a budget rebuild and all parts have already been purchased.
i am just surprised that there is no easy to find records of someone trying this, with results - good or bad. probably not even worth my time thinking about it haha

mini a series 998cc pistons and rings
hello everyone bmc a series engine (this ones from a moke) the commonly available pistons for these things are still of the 3 compression rings and one oil ring variety. tried searching with no luck - is there any proven advantage to leaving say the 2nd or 3rd compression ring out for less friction?...

Re: Can a steel flywheel be machined?
i dont have a dedicated flywheel grinder however i have a horizontal surface grinder and a rotary table i attach when i want to grind a flywheel. this only does flat or downwards stepped flywheels though, so for anything in-stepped i do on my big lathe - over the years i have found the best way is a...
