Re: Is Prof.Blair & Associates still in business?

My understanding is Dr Charlie McCartan has stopped selling the software. But no official announcement.

Re: the DV Live Now post

There seems to be a major amount of misunderstanding of the 128 rule. Maybe we should firstly state some concepts and issues in a different way. David Vizard has a large database of tested results for a large number of engines and component combinations. He took a selection of these results and used...

Re: That 128 controversy

David, In the video you talk about the opening and closing rate as being important, I agree. But is it not easier to just say what happens in effect is the overlap specific time area increases and easier to give a number to, rather than increased valve acceleration? After all, keeping the opening an...

The forgotten effect of aluminium is the higher inherent damping which also helps with harmonics.

Re: We're all wrong......

Regarding squish velocity, something similar has evolved. Squish velocity by itself is useful but does not tell us all that we need to know. Certainly, squish clearance is only one of several factors that must be considered. Now we stay awake at night trying to visualize the directional paths of th...

1. Calculator This is a program where you give it some inputs which it plugs into a formula or a number of formulas and it gives you some output. Whether the formula was obtained from physics (semi-empirical), based on some manipulation of data or plain sucked from a thumb, it is just a calculator w...

Re: Camshaft lobe design by Billy Godbold

I think the Blair program tried to be an all in one program and does this as well. I suspect the GT packages to be beyond that. I wanted to buy the Blair software to see how well it works, but I was told it's no longer for sale. I have it, I was one of the Beta testers for Prof Blair, but more on t...

Re: Engine Tuning - In Cylinder Pressure - Naturally Aspirated Engine

I do believe Nitro is missing on a great opportunity by not posting a YouTube demo video or six. (And maybe so am I!) His system is great. I have worked with a number of tuners in Europe using it, mostly on the 2T side. It is very easy to use even for people that has English only as their second or ...

Re: Can A Big 2 Stroke Single Make Power Without An Expansion Chamber?

Running the tuned pipe externally with an internal stinger and then silencer will make the same power as a normal tuned pipe but much much less noise.

Re: Exhaust Duration, Boost and Elevation

Controlling boost to compensate for high altitude requires keeping the plenum absolute pressure the same, not the gauge pressure. This will usually eventually lead to a turbo overspeed case so you need to also measure turbo speed to open the wastegate to control turbo speed when you get to the limit...

Re: Chassis dyno losses - please critique my thinking.

To be clear, what is meant by chassis dyno:
  • Hub dyno, or
    Rolling road dyno?
They have different losses, and on the rolling road dyno the way power is calculated also differs from make to make.
