Re: Willys Flathead Idle Timing

All cool(BTW, I am very familiar with the Holley stuff as well as many aftermarket and OEM ecu's) Ok, another little tip to aid in idle control tuning after adjusting tables to get highest map reading. Watch the IAC counts, as you get even closer on the tune in these areas(timing and fuel), the IAC ...

Re: Willys Flathead Idle Timing

Hiya's :) Engine Control Module: Holley Dominator (Holley Part No: 554-114) Distributor: Autolite PN: IAT 4206 1K modified to accept hall effect camshaft and crankshaft position sensors Isn't this locked out so ECU controls timing once base and rotor phasing is correct? If not, why not? Then you can...

Re: Willys Flathead Idle Timing

I bet you end up in the 2's or high 1's at idle. You can leave the timing up, headers run cooler. Get happy means you are pulling more vacuum, MAP KPA number will lower numerically as vacuum increases. Setting the closed loop learn to 0 or 5% will show you trends as to whether it is lying or not.

Re: Willys Flathead Idle Timing

Hiya's,
7 lbs/hour is wayyyyyy too much fuel for that engine at idle, probably at least 2x. Forget the wideband for now and use the MAP sensor reading as a vacuum gauge of sorts, keep pulling fuel in those cells 'till it gets happy.

Re: Rod bearing clearance

Hiya Dave, The rods do stretch, my old school blown 11,000 rpm BBC had ~.090" piston to head and you could barely see the very minimal contact. A lot better Alum rods out there now(this was in '94) They do shrink from work hardening. I can't advise on clearances for that stroker as I've not don...

Re: Anyone know of a source of springs for distributors

Hello,
When I worked at Mallory back in the 80's, I sort of remember most or all coming from Century Spring.

Re: Why 4 degrees?

Hiya's, With the new generation engines...Ford coyote for example, 4 valve almost ultimate control...GM LT platform where you can advance or retard within 1/4 degree at will. How do you decide what change was better? I datalog the MAF sensor as well as many other things ;) The dohc engines don't se...

Hello,
Disagree. Round off the outside edges of the big end and narrow the small end within reason or change pins. Tapered pin is lighter and stronger.

Hiya,
Unless you are running Nitro, use the standard allecular AP and let them move. Check and set clearances and go
King bearings for the win.

Re: LS Valve weight VS spring pressure

Hello, I agree the spintron is pretty much the way to go. I have no idea of cost. I used to work for Erson Cams and the knowledge I gained from Hans and Gregg is amazing to this day. I generally know what lobe to use for whatever I am doing and have never been dis-satisfied, even at over 11,000 rpm ...

Not implemented yet, far from all the legalities to overcome.

Re: LS Valve weight VS spring pressure

In general, a customer will never know another 20hp and which lobe was worth 20hp, they know when they don't finish an endurance race though
