Re: BBC oem cylinder head debate
OC heads fitted on a closed chamber race engine made 29 more HP even with less CR. this test was done at gulf research in pittsburgh OC cast iron oval port heads were available on 1974 454 1/2 ton PU engines 1973 454 even :) Isn't pittsburgh where you are from? You probably were involved in that te...

Re: 350 vortec no start help
dot to dot on the chain should have the rotor pointed at #6 if you want to check that. That flat cap can be a bit confusing. Look closely. It's very easy to mess up the firing order.

Re: 350 vortec no start help
Hiya Brian,
The timing is controlled by the front crank sensor, the cam sensor distributor is basically for rotor phasing and sequential sync so it will run "non batch" fire.
Pull the front sensor and check for metal "fuzz" then check to make sure the reluctor wheel hasn't spun on the woodruff key.

If you have a filter bypass problem, you already have a problem.

Agreed, not much changes in most housing bores. Always best to check 2 and 10, both sides if you can. Run a couple tenths loose other wise

Re: Filter cut database.
Not a silly question. "rare earth" magnets are my favorite in a lot of spots on an engine. They will "grab" even the best stainless. You can watch for things. I am working on an aluminum magnet

Re: Lifters, valve springs
Hiya,
If you groove the lifter without touching the base, good on you. However, a grooved lifter on an .875 and the acceleration is based on .874 will kill itself.

Re: Your opinions on flipping pistons
Garbage, as Stan posted, it's really more important to have the camshaft correct for the dwell of either side. If you are flipping pistons to aid the wrong cam, change the cam. Bernoulli's equation can be used in a lot of life. https://www.princeton.edu/~asmits/Bicyc ... oulli.html

All good strategies above. At least a couple heat cycles too are necessary for endurance race stuff.

Re: Power doesn't matter, valve springs ?
Yes that's the same Moe Mills, he and Ken Robles started Ross pistons. I have lots of stories. Some are not so flattering and it would serve no good purpose to air them here, but some are really great. I was in the custom piston business for 42 years so I knew just about everyone else that came and...

Re: Power doesn't matter, valve springs ?
Intech, Is T Willy still with us? Yes he was a character, hung around with Moe Mills. Shoot, I don't know. I met him when I was at Mallory/Erson in the late 80's early 90's. His cubicle was right behind mine. I'll have to check in with Marco Glush who lived a couple blocks from him at the time, Mar...

Sorry, Russ never scammed anyone. He was just under budget. One of the greatest people I have met in my life. I am sorry if you had a bad situation with him.
