Re: 243 vs 823 combustion chamber

fair enough. and yes, it was removed.

Asked another way-
does anyone have information on which motor requires more/less timing? Thats a pretty good indicator of chamber effectiveness.

Re: 243 vs 823 combustion chamber

Lets try this again-

243 vs 823 combustion chamber

I have a question that relate more towards a street oriented engine setup- If you are familiar with the 243 or "LS6" cylinder head, you know that the chamber has a quench pad behind the spark plug thats relatively straight and the combustion chamber size is roughly 64cc's which for the com...

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

You could sell the top end and throw on latemodel ls3/l92's that the 6.2 trucks have. With stock ls3 cam you'd make 330-340 whp tuned and get 12-14 mpg city 18-19 highway. My 6.2 L9H made 330 after tune bone stock. Its got the vvt but weighs 5400 estimated Kinda surprised at the cam choices. One is...

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

crazy how the dynamic compression only went up by 3/10ths of a point, but it really shifts the numbers around alot. Very good info. Thanks for all the reply's- will be making some phone calls here after I recover from christmas. BTW, I changed the numbers to make them more accurate with what I have:...

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

If you switched to this. Part# HR68340-69340-114 264/268 @ Seat 218/222 @ .050" .340"/.340" Lobe Lift 114 LSA 110 ICL You would make peak HP at 5,400rpm, and make 40ft/lbs more in the 2,500-3,000 range. That will make for a big increase in milage. Noted- the gas mileage is already te...

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

I have a third question, which im sure will get some eye rolls-

What would you change to optimize gas mileage AND lose less than 10% of the power currently available? (if you had to drop power to do so)

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

I'd go to a 224/234 on a 110, with a 106 ICL. That will increase the torque, and not lose any top-end. In the circle track world, I've seen the fresh guys add more exhaust duration to have more continuing/higher power at peak/after peak but the guys who are better drivers tend to reduce the exhaust...

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

More details for those who inquire- gearing is 4.10, transmission is 4L80E, truck is 6,600lbs and tires are 31" Torque converter is stock but I just emailed the sheet to Mike at precision industries. He suggests a multi-disk lockup with a 3400 stall, so I'll probably drop the money to get one. ...

Re: Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

Almost forgot-

Completely disregard ALL GREEN LINES. Tuners somehow think its important to show how bad it would run with pig rich A/F ratios when you bring them a fresh combination.

Pulling out exhaust duration/increasing lobe separation

Here's a dyno of the vehicle first of all- graph is done at 6K (even thought it isn't shown) and starts falling off after 5500 gradually. https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/1502249_10153688009860173_982051745_o.jpg Engine is a 6.0 with ported 243 heads, 10.2:1 compression, ARH lo...

6600lb 6.0 cam

Hate to ask, but was curious what the max duration was for a 6.0 LS before you need to clearance the pistons for valve reliefs. I'm running a 6.0 LQ4 with factory dish pistons, ported 243 heads, (compression is 10.2:1) .040 MLS head gasket, American Racing Headers long tubes, 1 3/4 primaries, and a ...

Extreme fuel efficient Geo Metro

Hello once again! This is my current fuel efficiency "challenge" and I was hoping to confirm or kill a few ideas I had toward building this engine- Its a 1.0 3 cylinder engine for those who aren't familiar. It probably has a little more power than a briggs & stratton, but gets very goo...

Re: Oil out of pushrods on a cold start

Mr Rat, yes I am aware there are better oils. I am trying this oil because its readily available and is what weight oil Morel recommends for use with their lifters. I would like to say I do appreciate your time and effort spent on researching issues. Now onto my issue. Would sitting overnight be co...
