Re: High speed air bleeds
If the engine is a little lean on the top end, then go tighter on the high speed bleed. If the fuel curve is flat and the carb responds to jetting changes then I would leave the bleed alone and give the engine what it wants for fuel with the jet. Someone (hopefully) designed that carb and its fuel c...

Re: carbed 5.3,ls1
Stick to the fuel injection. There is a pretty significant mileage advantage using fuel injection over a carb in an application like yours. Stick with the factory wiring harness and computer if you can. Now if your main goal was drag racing then my answer would be different, but you want real high m...

Re: E-85 / Alcohol / Racing Fuel
The octane rating of e85 is not significantly effected by gas% content between e70 and e85. There is an excellent article by Delphi engineers and published in the SAE in 2010 that explains this well. The article is titled "Investigation of Knock Limited Compression Ratio of Ethanol Gasoline Ble...

Re: ARE ALL sbc 010 BLOCKS HIGH NICKEL????
I am not normally one to repeat things "I've heard" on the Internet, however, several years ago there was quite a lengthy discussion on another forum with a gentleman that actually worked at one of the GM foundries that cast the SBC. He specifically stated that the numbers 010 and 020 unde...

Re: E-85 / Alcohol / Racing Fuel
Looking for info I'm E-85 vs alky and racing fuel. Anybody have any experience with using E-85 and the best place to buy a carb? Been racing with e85 for 6 seasons now, I don't ever plan to change back to gas or go to methanol. e85 is NOT corrosive if you keep it dry. If you let your carb sit all w...

Re: Rods for Blown 427 sbc
I would use a 5.85" rod and take every bit of that .150" height saved in the rod length and put it in the piston above the top ring. Don't worry about the rod/stroke ratio -- you're putting boost to it so why rev it to the moon? Another option would be to go to a 3.875" crank (you're ...

Re: High Cranking Compression
You might want to degree that cam and make sure it is what you think it is. 13.6:1 and 286* @.050 ought to make 230 'ish on the cranking compression.

The box stock Holley tune ought to be close for your combo. That is 67/73 jets.

That carb is not a bad size for your engine. That 825 flows close to 900cfm (dry) on my bench.

should run about 9.7's at about 137. This is assuming you can hit the spray out of the hole and make it hook hard.

Soak it in e85 for a couple days. It will soften up and get gummy. Then you can pick it out.

Re: Carb booster CSA v's jet/PVCR CSA
I'll have to agree with Tuner (damn its good to see you back around again!) I've had quite a few home brew e85 carbs (and surprisingly a few from big name builders) come through my little shop that would not richen up enough with small (gasoline sized) boosters and main wells. Its amazing how even s...

Re: carb question
If the primary tslot is perfect and the idle speed is too low or too high, consider tweaking the secondary side. IMO the secondary side is not as critical as the primary, but I like to have the primary open .020-.030 and the secondary just barely covered.

Re: Best intake/carb for a 540 BBC
I've had good luck with the 1150 Dom for engines in that power range. Based on advertised head flow I am guessing 750-800 HP. If you think the engine will be significantly over 800 HP I would go to the 1250. No offense intended "900 HP" but IMO if shift recovery is better on an 800 HP engi...
