Re: SBC Tunnel Ram

What are you basing your shift points on? As a 434 I would think peak will be less than 7000, and it will be way down on power at 8200. 12.5 is E85/race gas compression, regardless of what cam you use. Stall speed is your friend, think 1500 to 2000 between stall and shift point/trap RPM. I compared ...

Re: Rocker arm ???

Cast iron 2 bbl intake must be used.

Further down, allowed aluminum intakes allowed?!?!?

Long slot stamped rockers will support more lift than what a proper duration cam will provide. The Crane Cool Nuts (poly locks) are a worthy investment, along with quality studs.

Re: Cylinder wall thickness ,,, again :)

You're losing .005" wall thickness, if it fails at .040" it would fail at .035". I honed a stock eliminator LT1 a few years back, it was .060" over and working well. FWIW, the bores were as bad as .0015" out of round. Bigger on the non thrust position.

Re: How to sleeve a 350 the right way?

set the numbers block in the corner for safe keeping. Get another block so that when you enjoy driving the car you can actually enjoy it. Then if you ever sell the car, give them the numbers block to go with it. Brian Having said that, a numbers matching guy just had us sleeve all eight holes back ...

You know you screwed up when you notice the intermediate shaft after you fill the crankcase.
That would be 5 minutes into a FT break in when you notice the shaft vibrating off the cowl.
OOF!

Re: Anyone do a 406 to 421 SBC comparison? Results? Worth the change?

If you leave the cam the same, you will see very little gain in HP, but it will make peak TQ and HP sooner(about 200rpm). If the heads are the restriction now, that'll also keep it from making any more HP, and it'll nose over sooner. I still have your cam recommendation from August of last year, ch...

Re: Enging Break-In (From Total Seal Piston Rings)

We use the BR in anything other than a stocker with factory hydraulic roller cam, only complaint is they are pretty proud of their oil. ($$$)

Anyone do a 406 to 421 SBC comparison? Results? Worth the change?

My low 10 second bracket engine will eventually need a refresh and I was kicking around the idea of changing from my 3.75 crank to a 3.875. Crank and rods were purchased in 2006 so they don't owe me anything. Getting a bit more compression with the added displacement would be nice since the heads ha...

Re: Oil pressure vs volume

I would question the "box" as being restrictive but the extra litre should have overcome. Any possibility of the pickup being too close? I've had issues with too much oil, but the pressure fell off to nearly nothing quite quickly, doesn't sound like your issue. Maybe try a different oil filter befor...

Re: blown alcohol

Sportsman stuff we shoot for 11, maybe 11.5:1, the higher the compression the narrower the tuning window. The aftermarket block really benefits from the added head bolt holes, there is a weak area on stock blocks where there is a large span woithout a head bolt on each bank. A 4.500 bore leaves lots...

Re: KB Claimer pistons

Hmmm. "Tow truck" to me means high load/lugging/high combustion temperature/likelihood of detonation. Claimer pistons-marketed as a budget lightweight (arguably) race piston, with higher top ring locations and thinner piston lids. Kind of asking for trouble in my opinion. I would stick with a heavie...

Re: SBC Oil pump rod falling out

SBC using Melling M55 pump and steel pump to distributor intermediate shaft with steel collar. What’s the best way to keep the intermediate shaft from falling out while working on short block on stand and turning it over. Top end, including distributor is not yet installed. Can I use a high temp si...

You’re about to spend serious cash on rockers, why not call and ask?

May as well discuss ratios, to get the most from your combination.
