Re: If you own an engine dyno
My first thought would be to try and put it inside. Another idea would be to build a plywood framed insulated structure around it and leave a $20 electric heater on inside when it's cold. Another idea might be to put a insulated blanket around it and hook up a water heater to it. Another idea is to ...

Re: Bad Heads On My 383 SBC?
I'd go with a set of AFR 195 #1040 heads. They should be worth about 75 hp better.

Re: Pro Systems Dominator woes
Is the fuel old or has it been left out in the open for too long? Just seems like the air/fuel mixture is dead.

Re: Pro Systems Dominator woes
Looks like a weak ignition system to me. Won't even back fire into the carb. I'd start by using ground wires instead of chassis grounds, check your voltage everywhere, replace sparkplug wires, and replace the entire ignition system with something else if you can't get the current system to work.

Re: Dropping the exhaust decibels on street motor
To keep it quiet I'd run the thickest small tube headers around and run them into a 2.5 exhaust system with a balance tube all the way out the back over the rear axles.

Re: High nickel blocks? Vortec heads??
My guess would be that the "010" and "020" refers to casting core version upgrades from the foundry for that given block part number. So "010" would probably be upgrade 1, and "020" would be upgrade 2. Maybe thicker cylinders or thicker main webbing or whateve...

Re: 383, 11.6 compression, pump gas advice
I've run 11:1 SBC's on 91 octane California pump gas in the 650 hp range and all I had to do was run total timing around 28 degrees locked.

Re: Drilling holes in head gaskets = more flow = lower temps: Change My Mind!
I wouldn't drill holes in the head gasket. I'd do the opposite and use the head gasket as a template to make sure all the water holes in the head gasket match the holes drilled in the head and block. Most SBC head gaskets have more holes in between the two exhaust ports on the exhaust side of the he...

Re: SB2.2 RO7 intakes
Short answer is no. But it looks like if you want to do some drilling and tapping, welding and grinding, maybe you can make them fit.
R07 is on the left/SB2.2 on the right.
SB2.2 intake gasket on a R07 head.

Cool video. Wish more teams showed off their manifolds and heads from past wins.

Use a roller cam. They are cheaper in the long run.

Re: what typically goes on 5.3 first
I have a 2001 Silverado with the 5.3L and after 400,000 miles I got it rebuilt about 4 years ago. I was surprised the cylinders were still good with no ridge around the top. The only issue I was having was lifter noise in the morning over the past 5 years before the rebuild. It would get quiet after...

Looks like the old World Products iron heads from the early 1990's, although I think they use to have a cast "WP" over the intake port.

Re: Enclosed trailer fuel efficiency
I've experimented with different configurations on my 2001 Silverado pickup and found the best solution for max fuel economy is a full shell. The worse is an open bed with the tail gate down. The second worse is an open bed with the tail gate up. A Tonneau cover is next best, but the best is a full ...
