Re: Cleaning carbon from piston tops - any homebrew remedies?
cleaning ANYthing on an engine, a quick spritz or easy off oven cleaner. it'll flow your F'ing mind. spray on.. 20-40 seconds.. wipe clean... pistons and all come out looking like you just pulled them from a shelf. an i DO loves me some soda blasting.. phenomenal what baking soda and a eastwood spe...

Re: Crank scraper proximity to crank?
ya you'll want it practically on there. i have done some high-end M3 stuff ( mostly E36 as well) and any time we built a rarecar that was the ticket.. make it touch. just barely. as far as a scraper on dry-sump.. it IS effective to a degree. you figure you're stripping off a parasitic loss.. there ...

SF120 good deal to snag?
got a lead on a SF110/120. evidently been sitting in storage for a while. was told $1500. seems liek a deal when i searched and found others for $3500. he's also got a SF600 as well. sorta wondering what that may go for!
so.. input.. buy or walk?

Re: Alternator Cutoff
it would be interesting to note the primary voltage to the plug coil(s)at he beginning and end of the run to chart voltage drop.. you figure theres a massive ratio there where 1 volt lost could equal thousands of secondary volts gone as well.. depending on the transformer ratio.. if h ad to guess.....

Re: "twingle"
one of the biggest advances so far with streetbikes that we've seen from trickle-down moto-GP stuff IS yamaha's R1 wit the crossplane crank firing 1-2-3-4. the sole purpose of that was traction and linearity of throttle response and power build. loved the article on the autograss big bang stuff. in...

Re: Rich piston damage - Explain this!!
i have heard that you can have high EGTs and be lean OR rich, as theres a bellcurve to AF in relation to EGT
( please correct me if i'm wrong here..)
but if that's the case, you can see the correlation to an overly rich condition creating piston damage via EGTs exceeding 1380*F

Re: Knurled main bore
that is pretty damn slick, honestly.. i can imagine tho theres a possiblity that was a "homemade" tool with a almost gear puller-esque looking contraption with the arms expandable via a driven bolt and wedge, on the end of the arms, knurling wheels intended for use with a lathe. IF.. i ha...

Re: Laminar Flow in conjunction with boost
i appreciate the input guys!. i was told ( by quite a few people, actually, some who are engine builders, some, mechanical engineers who know a good bit about motors..) that there IS a laminar flow along the port walls.. setting up a sort of mini boundary layer of air between the intake charge and ...

Laminar Flow in conjunction with boost
how relevant is laminar flow in relation to this? as with a previous thread, we all agreed that exhaust tuning goes out the window on boost for the most part. now, i would have to "assume" that laminar flow will be pretty much null and void on boost? so, whether my intake runners reflect ...

is there a list of oxygenated fuels or somewhere i can read up on this? i plan on changing the fuel to.. Something.. once i get my turbo bike done.. definitely lack knowledge in the fuel-side of the deal. wouldn't mind knowing whats gonna be the best one to use.
