Re: LS cruise timing
The following quote from RW Tech in a similar recent thread summarises the overall timing approach well. Quote "Right, exactly. A street car with distributor ignition should NEVER run with no vacuum advance, locked centrifugal advance, etc. All the time I see EFI cal files created by "tune...

Re: Datsun R 16 head porting advice?
Gday mate I relieve the block as a normal part of building this particular engine, who's hemi chamber overhangs the block near the intake valve. In the attatched pics, the cut is just visible. It goes out to the gasket line, and down the cylinder to the top ring location . I stop cutting 40th short ...

Re: moly top ring and boost?
My I6 is using Hastings moly rings and SRP 4032 forged pistons with 14psi. No issues, though the tune is good and the driver is mechanically sympathetic.

Re: Single Central Spark Plug In A Two Valve Combustion Chamber
Gday On an Enfield cylinder head (same Hemi chamber design) the decompressor is located in a similar position, and can be removed for the installation of a second spark plug. The modification is reasonably straightforward. In theory, this gives all the usual internet advantages. In reality it provid...

Re: Adding Reciprocating Weight
Evening gents If I've read the original post correctly, only ONE piston of a different weight is being replaced. The others, all balanced the same, will have a new neighbour seven grams lighter. The question becomes, "Is this one odd piston going to be an issue?" I recently changed to a se...

Re: Something I haven’t seen mentioned with valve train deflection
The first time I checked the net lift on the current flat tappet solid lifter cam, I was worried I was wearing the lobe/lifter. I had a loss of ~34th across all valves. After checking all valves a number of times over 1000miles without losing any more lift, I figured it wasnt eating the interface, b...

Re: FLOW TESTING PISTON DOMES?
My single cylinder bike piston is very similar to yours pictured. I have in the past contoured the shape of the relief into the piston more, which cost a point in compression ratio, and was noticeable on the bike. It lost a touch of overall power, so the flow gain (if any) didnt offset the CR loss. ...

Re: Re- balance rotating assembly
Hi Tom Thanks- thats good to know. Learning never stops. All six new SRP piston assemblies were within 1g of each other, and the rotating assembly with the previous pistons had been recently balanced. At the time, the balancing shop wanted the damper, crank, pistons, rods, bearings, flywheel, and cl...

Re: Re- balance rotating assembly
Hi Steve For what its worth, I recently changed out a set of KB Hypers for the pictured SRP forged 4032 3.97 1/16 1/16 3/16 pistons. The machine shop, well respected here in Western Australia, told me the new SRP piston, pin, and rings were 90grams lighter than the previous KBs (I asked him to measu...

G'day BryanJusta1time wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 11:19 pm C garb,
Good suggestion. I am going to look into a set of 1.6s for exhaust.
Thanks!
Bryan
Traditionally the 1.6+ is used on the intake.
Is there reason with your combination why they'd be installed on the exhaust?
Just asking
Thanks

Mr Meaux,
Does the download work on an Android Tablet?
I had an early version of Pipemax on an old Windows PC, but now only have android based phone and tablet.
Thank you

Paulie

Im using the Davies Craig electric water pump (EWP150) in addition to the factory mechanical with a 160 deg themostat. (rated ar 160 , though fully open at 170) It significantly improved the heat management in all conditions , but most noticeably at low engine speeds where the mechanical pump wasnt ...

Re: Gen I Hemi 331 - 354 - 392 Block deck drawing
Gday Alan When I had a friend make mine (the major machine shops in Western Australia didnt have one for a 265), he digitized a head gasket, and then laser cut it from inch thick Bisalloy. Worked petfectly, and has given us the best ring seal to date. It is discomforting though to get the relaxed bl...

Gday BLSTIC I have a 620cc single cylinder Enfield (500cc based) making 50rwhp. Its current (and best system to date) is a mandrel bent Pipemax spec 1.75" single. I don't have a problem with this pipe size, though 1.62 would likely support the hp just as well. (Pipemax was between the two sizes...

Re: E85, CR, and Boost.
Thanks gents for your advice- greatly appreciated. A double check of current chamber volume today puts us at 10:45:1. (some further chamber and valve work was done). So on good quality E85 it looks like we're ok. (thanks Orr89rocz) There are a limitted number of fuel stations in our area who sell E8...
