Re: Thoughts on 1.0/1.0/2.0 mm ring package, pure street 60s engine
For what it’s worth. I’ve assembled similar engines using the 1.0 mm/ 2 mm oil. They definitely have less blow by on the meter on our dyno. Usually about 1.5 cfm at wot. The thicker rings seem to hover around the 2.5 -3 cfm on fresh builds. Just my experience.

Re: Toyota Recall High Engine Oil Consumption
I agree with all Toyota’s engines are not created equally for sure. Anything with an iron block that Toyota has is usually the engines Toyota built they’re good reputation on. It seems the newer stuff with aluminum blocks just don’t have the longevity. For instance , the older 4 cyls and v 6s were g...

Re: Basic wideband carb tuning question
To answer your question, i wouldn’t, as stated above there won’t be any load on it to break in the rings etc. Once on a dyno, you can tune it with widebands bank to bank quite accurately for cruise, part throttle etc. As well as wot. There will always be some slightly lean and rich cylinders as we k...

Re: Toyota Recall High Engine Oil Consumption
I have personally repaired a lot of these engines. I’m a Toyota master tech. I can tell you with all certainty, no amount of additives are gonna help. These pistons and ring assembly’s are glued with carbon/oil deposits. The new rings supplied by Toyota are far different for the repair. 3 piece oil ...

Re: newer engine air/fuel ratio ?
As I understand it they maintain the a/f ratio for emissions and get fuel economy with egr. EGR isn't used anymore, cam timing is played with instead. Alter exhaust gas residuals with exhaust timing and alter intake timing to change manifold vacuum (or lack thereof) to reduce pumping losses, and dr...

Re: 331 sbf dyno results today
X2 for the results and am also interested with the headers. How much mismatch at the port with the small primary? Tri-y or long tubes, stepped? Collector length and diameter? Do the specs agree with Pipemax? Was there a down turn from the port or more like dyno/ boat/ Hotrod headers? Just curious as...

Re: 331 sbf dyno results today
I was pleasantly surprised also. I thought about 1.3 per inch would be the norm for these type of street engines. We were blessed with accurate o2 sensors for a change on the dyno, and ended up with a 6 jet size spread to get them as even as possible. This was with a crappy 12 by 3 inch air cleaner ...
