SBC 8-1/4" Oil Pan with Melling 10552ST - Which Pickup??
What is your oil pump pickup of choice for SBC for a Melling 10552ST oil pump with a 8-1/4" pan (Milodon 30908 pan) Milodon does nit make a pickup for that pump that bolts on and called Morosoand they are stating their 24181 pickup won't work cause that pump is 1/4" longer. Canton 20-081 p...

Re-balancing Required??
Hi guys, Contemplating replacing the connecting rods in the engine and wondering if I would be okay without rebalancing the crank. The new rods are slightly heavier. Crankshaft was originally balanced at 1,912.0gr and the new bobweight at 50% would be 1,948.2gr, so I would be under-balanced by 36.2g...

Re: Pennzoil 20w50 Racing Oil
I heard that they stopped producing it when the Pennsylvania oil refinery that the base oil came from was sold (that is also when the Brad Penn or PennGrade oil changed base oil supplier). The new owners (DA lubricants or something like that) have some connection with Driven and now Driven gets thei...

Re: Camshaft duration vs valve events vs RPM
What info do you want? It has 23deg low port heads (248cc intake runners) and it is at 13.1:1 cr. It has a 300-25 manifold with a nitrous plate that has been flowed by Steve Johnson and it is good to 600hp (my cubic inch would not allow that much to be sprayed). We never ran less than 250hp of nitro...

Re: Camshaft duration vs valve events vs RPM
Okay, let's add that this engine sees 400hp (around 1,600pph) of nitrous and it is never ran N/A. OK, now neither intake lobe will be anywhere close to correct. Your so far off on cam duration for a NO2 engine that peaks at 7,000, that there's no reason to look at what change you would see from tak...

Re: Camshaft duration vs valve events vs RPM
Let's say 406sbc (4.155x3.750).
Lets say that the intake is proper for the rpm and head is porper for the added rpm.
Lift stays the same.

Camshaft duration vs valve events vs RPM
Let's say that the cubic inch and all other engine parameters stay the same and the lobe profile is the same, how much RPM will the peak power of an engine increase withh more duration? And how much increase from moving valve vents. Here is an example just on the intake lobe: 273@0.050 at 110icl. Ev...

Re: Service Life of Steel H-Beam Rods
Let me ask another question along the same line:
How often should rod bolts be replaced? Is it based on heat cycles or how many times they were torque? If it is torqued related (which I would assume it is since that is when you are really stretching the bolt), how many re-torque is too many?

Service Life of Steel H-Beam Rods
Wondering what the service life of a steel H-Beam connecting rod would be? My current rods are old!!! Makes me wonder if I am not playing with fire still running them. They are 14 years old. The first 8 years, the engine made around 750hp (500hp N/A + 200-250hp of nitrous) with around 3,000 miles of...

Re: Oil on #4 Plug
Sorry guys, forgot to say that it is a SBC 23deg head engine on nitrous. When I shut the engine off at the too end to read plugs, there is always oil on #4. I did change both intake & exhaust valve seals. The intake manifold is tight. I have tried to re-tighten it twice and it was still tight. I...

Re: Oil on #4 Plug
Cylinder heads are RHS casting that have been CNC ported and new guides installed. Less than 40 runs on heads since new.
