Re: The J58 Turboramjet
Just in case you have one up on jackstands and need a little help: http://www.amazon.com/Lockheed-SR-71-Blackbird-onwards-Workshop/dp/0857331566 I'm sure Chilton's is working on theirs asap :-). I have that book! I was lucky enough to tour Beale AFB back in the 80s and got to see the SR71 up close!...

Re: dual spark plug heads burning hotter on one side
Do you have two coils or one? If you run two plugs on a single 2 output coil in the same cylinder one will get more spark then the other. When I ran a Pro Stock bike with 2 plugs per cylinder the Dyna ignition instructions specifically warned against doing this. If you look at any wasted spark dual ...

Re: New project - how to find best EFI injector performance?
I remember reading an article on the Ford Coyote 5.0 engine development where the engineers said that could get most of the benefit of direct injection without the cost with their setup. Re: Harmonic Balancer woes
If the crank and balancer are both steel and have the same coefficient of expansion and contraction, supercooling will net nothing. Move on from that and work toward releasing the mechanical pressure holding the parts together. Drill holes next to the crank and possibly all the way around it. It wi...

Re: Harmonic Balancer woes
Early 454 chevies had this trouble with stuck balancers. After putting a couple of high $$ pullers in the tool graveyard I built a fixture thet bolted to the balancer and used a 5 ton bottle jack. Have had to get it out and use it a couple of times last year. Seems some of these internet (mail orde...

Re: Harmonic Balancer woes
Good Idea to pull it and do it right... Central Texas is a pretty big area. Give me a location and I can PM you a list of good Texas guys. I'm in East Texas and depending on where you are in Texas I could be closer to Chicago than you... :~) PM sent... One of my Mustang buddies suggested I drop the...

Re: Harmonic Balancer woes
Thanks for all the replies! Much food for thought... The heat I applied was minimal so it only warmed up the hub a little ( warm to the touch) so I don't think the balancer rings were affected but the front seal might be damaged. The crank is supposed to be a Scat so I'm guessing it's from China? Th...

Harmonic Balancer woes
I had just finished priming the oil pump on a newly built Ford 408 Windsor and upon removing the drill the oil pump drive shaft fell into the pan. Apparently the engine builder forgot to make sure the retaining clip was on... ( it wasn't me!) Since this engine has a 7 quart Moroso pan and it'...
