Re: Modifying chambers for boost

This is where I am right now, I think I'm ready to clean them up and put them back on. Are there any obvious mistakes I made or things I should change? I didnt want to do any more grinding around the valves because I was concerned I'd get too close to where the fire ring of the gasket seals, tight n...

Re: Modifying chambers for boost

Why do you recommend only removing the exhaust valve side? Is it because there is little volume to gain from also doing the intake side, or do you think it would benefit from keeping that quench area? From what I have read it seems like some recommend no quench in a boosted application and others re...

Re: Modifying chambers for boost

I was able to google search a factory 2jz gte head and came up with this, looks like I could do something similar by cutting out the small quench pads on the sides of the chamber as well as removing the peaks between valves.

Re: Modifying chambers for boost

I havnt really given cam grinding any thought, I'm pretty happy with power though. My biggest concern is the high compression ~10:1 and boost. It is intercooled and runing methanol injection. I'd like to be able to remove the meth system completely. I have the timing pulled back a good bit under boo...

Re: Modifying chambers for boost

The image above is of my non supercharged head, this is what GM did when they added the supercharger in factory form. Should I just copy their work?

Modifying chambers for boost

Backstory; I am working on a rear wheel drive 2007 Cadillac Northstar in a STS. I have had the car for quite some time, right after I bought it I installed a supercharger from a STS-V. After a couple years running it developed a slight coolant leak. Sure enough a couple head bolts had lost tension a...

Re: Performance in 2019 BIG 3 trucks !

So if I understand correctly, you started this thread to complain that OE manufacturers' vehicles dont live up to advertised numbers. But you also believe that this Rivan companie's product is going to meet or exceed its' advertised numbers? Seems like this thread would be a better fit in the new EV...

Re: Which Megasquirt?

I guess I should have been more specific and said Bosch "L-jetronic" and all of its varients that were used for about 20ish years. Ford EEC and TPI are other examples of OEM batch fire setups. So to say they were never used in OE applications is completely false. The main quality of a SFI ...

Re: Which Megasquirt?

Waste spark is fine but batch or semi-sequential fuel kind of sucks and that's what you'd be stuck with if you choose a 4cyl ecu like a microsquirt. There seems to be proponents both of sequential and batch. (And “enthusiastic discussions” about their merits) The only proponents of batch are the pe...

Re: Which Megasquirt?

I'm a fan of the simplicity of Microsquirt and I have used it on a couple engines now . Microsquirt is limited in a few ways. it can only drive a solenoid style IAC valve (may not be a problem if your 300 has a solenoid style valve) it is also limited on programmable outputs you have basically 4 pro...

Re: Another cam selection delimma

Thank you Camking! You make a good point that we have not even considered. These things do have a tendancy to get turned over. They also are known for staying in the throttle while the buggy is laying on its side. It definately does get the pickup tube uncovered and air in the oil system on occasion...

Re: Another cam selection delimma

Yes I agree, it does spend alot of time at high RPM, but its usually just spinning tires so it doesnt need to make power there. Peak torque in the 4,000 rpm range with strong midrange torque would probably give him the powerband he is looking for. So I guess what I'm asking for is a cam recommendati...

Re: Another cam selection delimma

The heads right now are stock L31 vortec heads I am unsure of which exact casting number they are, I will check and find out on the exact casting number. Valve sizes are 1.94 / 1.50, at this time the heads are completely stock unported. I know we will have to have some machine work done to the heads...

Another cam selection delimma

I am helping a friend with a mld buildup of a 355 SBC for his "rock bouncer" buggy. Basicly it is a hill climb competition on rock hills. Youtube video for reference https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ib6U5B5UGqw Anyway, the engine is a 355 Small Block Chevy gen 1, pretty standard bottom end wi...

Re: Headers for 9.325 SBC in '86 G-Body

Rarely do I have anything on this board that I know enough about to weigh in on. But I know this one. I have an 85 Monte carlo with AFR 210's and Headman 65218's. They fit with as much clearance as you could have without going to a custom built header. You should have no clearance problems at all if...
