Re: My CompCams Cam Card ECL Question

Just guesstimating, but Comp may have paired non-symmetrical intake and exhaust lobes from different design families that have different offsets from seat timing to .050" timing, in order to achieve your requested specs. I wouldn't panic.

Re: How good were caddy 500's really?

In the late 1960's-early 1980's, the 500-type Cadillac was the powerplant of choice for the airboat crowd in Florida. Lots of low RPM torque, enabling you to step up the prop size and pitch. There was an off-the-shelf Chrysler B piston that provided a compression and displacement increase, with just...

Re: Lifter face radius question

I know one racer that tried the composite wheel Schubeck lifters. He called Joe when he needed help turning the engine over on the engine stand while adjusting the valves. He was told to go ahead and run it. It didn't do very well........ instantly.

Not very detailed, but may be similar to the Mikronite process.

Re: cam lobe center/ seperation

For the most part this thread is low vac cams, idle has been mentioned. A couple degrees of LSA change is nothing when you're tossing up cams with large amounts of overlap. So idle is a duration conversation not an LSA conversation. Idle is an overlap timing/area, so LSA affects that. Yer point was...

Re: cam lobe center/ seperation

With all of these "comparisons", especially for street driven applications, why isn't idle (or cruising ) vacuum ever mentioned? For the most part this thread is low vac cams, idle has been mentioned. A couple degrees of LSA change is nothing when you're tossing up cams with large amounts...

Does the 400" have BBC journals? Otherwise the lobes would be above the SBC sized journals..

I believe that Chet Herbert made a V16 SBC with welded together blocks and a one-piece crankshaft. Don't recall the results?

Re: Mating Two V8's, ( Freight Train) vs. Harmonics

On Bob Stratman's series of twice-motored unblown SBC dragsters, we used a double-row chain for a coupling, with matching sprockets on the rear of the front and the front of the rear engines. Could change phasing in a couple of minutes. Some versions "sounded" better than others, but it al...

Re: Does anyone recognize these cam lobes?

It is a Crane small base circle 8620 core. The intake lobe could be a Crane R-268/4467 profile . When ground on a .900" base circle, the duration would lose a couple of degrees, ending up at 266 at .050", and 298 at .020" What is it at .200"? It should be about 190, if that's the...

Re: Dumb history question for the carb guys

For the record, Mark Campbell was the engineer at Crane who was responsible for the "Quick Lift" rocker arm system . . . . . The history of Holley in the performance arena is very interesting: the Holley brothers began supplying carburetors to engine manufacturers way over 100 years ago. ...
