Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?
Perhaps the answers to the question you are looking for are in service manuals and web searches. In terms of ancient engines, there has to be a reference to both initial, mechanical advance, and vacuum canister advance on say the 325, 350, 375 HP versions of the 396 Chev and equivalent in the small...

Re: Anyone know of a source of springs for distributors
McMaster-Carr carries Gardner Springs. I've bought some from them when I knew the dimensions and spring rates I was looking for.

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?
I think the likely perpetrator of the "emissions only" explanation was John Z (John Hinckley ) who used to post on various Corvette forums. http://www.camaros.org/pdf/timing101.pdf He was a manufacturing/process Engineer at GM and later at Chrysler. His mostly good "TIMING AND VACUUM...

Re: 340 Chrysler Street Header Questions
How does it run? To add some data to my earlier answer. In the quarter mile, went from 14.3 98 mph (before) to 13.3 103.8 mph (after) I know there's at least another .1 in ET between better driving and tuning. The air was pretty good - subjective evaluation there but cars were breaking out of their...

Re: How much zddp
There is really no reason to wave the wand of mystery smoke over this. Yes there are three formulation of ZDDP used in engine oils. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v201/Kaiserjeeps/wagoneer%20finish%20work/PC060224_zps4qy7632y.jpg From Engine Professional Oct-Dec 2018 posted here by Kaiserjeeps: h...

I hope to never see a Rat post ever again.
Might have meant well initially but over the top irrational extrapolation.

Re: How much zddp
I'm I placing to much importance on zinc and is there a point that to much is a bad thing. Yes. Somewhere above 1,400 ppm can be a bad thing. 1. results in excessive ash 2. can cause damage to the metal surfaces The latter was not at 1400 ppm, but when concentrations were getting around or above 20...

Re: Help needed connecting LMA-3 to LM-2
So far its working. New question: Is there a means to disable the analog channels ? It would make the downloads and use of the logs that much neater and quicker since I'm using the LMA for inputs. LM2 Manual rev 1.4 shows the option. The current manual (no revision number  ) still says it can ...

Re: Help needed connecting LMA-3 to LM-2
any tricks to get past the LM2 stalling problems? I can get to W99 and that's it.....have tried various methods.....haven't hard wired the power yet, that's my next shot....unless there's another way..... I e-mailed them. A likely cause is poor connection or resistance resulting in less than 12.5 V...

Re: Timing Curve
I tested disabling the pcv system by clamping off the hose in the back of the carb. I don’t understand how a pcv system is really supposed to work, and I don’t think I am alone. Many people think they dont belong on a hot rod, other say they are a “must have”. I rigged up a “catch cup” around my br...

Re: Timing Curve
Sorry I disappeared. You did well. That's about the only real practical way for most of us to figure out power valve opening. In short, get the two steady state conditions figured out, high speed cruise which is MJ, and WOT in top gear, which requires power valve open. Then adjust PV opening and PVC...

Re: Help needed connecting LMA-3 to LM-2
I haven't figured out why it will sometimes stall. Still trying to identify a pattern or like you, any information as to possible causes. Yesterday it warmed up proper on the first test, LMA3 not powered up. Then on second test with the LMA powered, it stalled. At the LM2 I disconnected and reconnec...
