Re: SBC Valves - GMPP Vortec Heads
Going from 85g to 125g, that's a 50% increase in weight. Yeah, it's always about the cost, but I'd take a shift as a greeter at Walmart to afford the lighter valves.

Re: Anyone been able to reach Isky Cams lately?
Kudos, Mike. You and Ed went different ways in making cams, but a family-owned company is always my first choice to deal with. Thanks for hanging in there.

Re: Anyone been able to reach Isky Cams lately?
Many of us old school guys are "no phone number, no business. I also respect the business owners wishes, if they only communicate through e-mails, OK by me, I am still able to accomplish what I want to do with business owners who still have customer service and a phone number. I know the world...

Re: Narrowing rods?
I was curious what are the rules and guidelines for narrowing rods? I've narrowed the big end in my flywheel grinder. I have a small chuck that I use to grind Subaru buckets that I use to hold them. Then I use a valve seat grinder to chamfer the edges. (put the stone in the dresser and lift the rod...

Re: Anyone been able to reach Isky Cams lately?
Only slightly OT, but having an online presence in Studebaker and Packard V8 discussions and being listed as a vendor in club publications, I should have a separate phone number just for that. I get calls early mornings, late nights, weekends; all nice older guys who just have a question and don't n...

Re: Service life of 6mm stem Ti valves.
Yes, bike engines use them, but there's a helluva lot of difference in the leverage a 2.180" head has against the stem.

Re: Primitive dial bore gauge
I have one in the metrology box. Haven't used it in years. Back in the day, all OEM Shop Manuals had a bore taper specification. Less than .005", for example, it could be re-ringed with original pistons. Along with the dial bore gauge had to be a bore ridge reamer. https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com...

They ran 500 miles on restrictor plate tracks at 6,000 RPM.

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?
Be nice if one of the major east/west and a north/south interstate was built like the Autobahn. We have the largest amount of car owners, and the largest car culture per capita bar none in the states, yet we are stuck with 65-70 mph posted speeds through most of the country. Hardly seems right. ins...

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?
FWIW, I drive I-90 to I-15, Spokane to Salt Lake City and a good share of the 725-miles is 80 MPH speed limit. Before the pandemic, set the cruise control at 80 and would seldom get passed. Today, at 80, better stay in the right lane because jacked-up-wide-tire 3500 brodozers are running 90+MPH. Fro...

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?
I once owned a '86 Porsche 944 which took forever to reach 130 MPH, but there was no sensation of speed. It was quiet and stable, moreso than the '86 'vette. Ever cruise through Montana on I-94 doing 100-120? On the flat stretches it is almost boring, the only sensation of speed you get is if overc...

First, welcome to the forum. We're patient with new members.
In the most friendly of responses, of all the questionable-out-of-the-mainstream ideas we've seen lately, this is right down under there. Can you prove you're not AI gone rogue? Not AI hallucinating?

Agree; if one is racing a SBC or BBC at Bonneville in a doorslammer class, he'd probably want to be in a 3rd or 4th generation Camaro/Farburd.wwmtlineman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2024 4:09 pm #rd gen Firebirds are pretty stout at Bonneville in the production classes
