Re: HIGHEST HP N/A Small blocks out there!!
That's a strange topic but go for it. The displacements for some of your candidates puts them well out of easily accomplished small block swept volume. The 3 HP per cubic inch versions are stunning if true for two valve American iron on gasoline. Never happened NA. There are reasons for that which y...

Re: Suzuki Gsx 1700 Inline Six Project
That's quite an ambitious project. Good luck with it. As an engineer and toolmaker I appreciate all the hard work involved with such a challenging task. I don't know if you're familiar with the 1978-1982 Honda inline motorcycle six and the problems they had. A big one was as the engine got hot at hi...

Re: Bryant crankshaft. likely been dropped. need advice.
If the typical straightening methods are used on a crank there is no way that peening broke off the the nose of a crank without underlying issues. Cracks? Bad material? Could be a number of problems. Be happy it didn't happen in a running engine.
It has for me and it wasn't fun.

Re: Aluminum head repair
If you are welding aftermarket aluminum heads they are commonly precipitation heat treated to condition T6. Avoid any preheat temperature above the precipitation heat treatment (artificial age). Heating to a higher temperature such as 400F will permanently soften the aluminum and decrease its mechan...

Re: Has anyone used Muggy Weld rods on cast iron
I haven't used Muggy Weld cast iron stick electrodes for cast iron repairs but I've had great success on close fitting cast iron joints with their 56% silver solder. In fact it's the most versatile of all of their products and it does great work on a wide variety of metals. It's not cheap but it can...

Re: Road Race Track/AutoCross 351w
^^^ I can hear and see in the video how you're driving the car. Yes, your engine and gearing setup isn't the best but you'll gain far more progress in performance by learning how to drive well from expert teachers than tweaking your power plant and car. Please seek that training. After that driver t...

Re: Cams effect on idle quality, vacuum, and off idle response
Who thinks many major US car builders came to use 30 degree intake valve seats by being stupid with full engineering staffs? They were ideal for precisely the conditions stated by the original poster. If you don't know why learn some more. It's a fact and SAE data backs it up going back for many dec...

His stories will indeed be missed. So will his passion for what he loved and enjoyed talking about. I'm sure many of us enjoyed his presence and unique voice, I surely did.

Re: lifter valley paint or polish
High end machine tools have used coatings on the interior of their gear cases for many decades and for good reasons. An as cast surface without the risk of particles getting loose and razing havoc with hyper expensive gear case and spindle bearing components is worth the step of using a coating to m...

Re: 0.006" valve clearance in new DOCH CAMs - Too tight?
Valve stem expansion of the exhaust valve is primarily in the relatively short portion of stem exposed inside the port and within the part of the guide exposed in the port. The part of the stem within the cooled portion of the guide inside the head is much cooler and doesn't expand all that much. Th...

Re: Big Issues with Cylinder Pressure (DCR)
David, are your calculations assuming adiabatic conditions? Or are they perhaps based upon experimental data which of course would not be under adiabatic conditions? Regarding other posts about inlet temperatures, with every engine I ever built fresh air at ambient temperature was a priority. Doing ...

Re: Small cams on 106-108 LSA’s
I haven't built a race engine since 1969 but I love a loud raucous idle quickly clearing to torque in NA applications. You are on the right track for that if that's what you desire. My stuff uses more duration and custom lobes because big power for the street is fun too. This sort of cam can cruise ...

Copper tubing is dangerous in applications subject to vibration such as on a vehicle, especially in a use carrying fuel. It can work harden and crack. Not good!swampbuggy wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 8:21 pm The best Copper line ( easier to work with ) might be an option to consider where you mentioned running the steel line ?? Mark H.

Where in the deck is the gash? If it doesn't enter where the head gasket fire rings seal there are other ways to repair such damage.
