Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit
Bad situation. This should not be happening. I wrote this back in Jan 2022: How Do Knock-off Companies Effect the Racing Industry? Let's admit it - the aftermarket racing industry faces many challenges today. From activist groups to government interference to unscrupulous companies to outright thiev...

Re: Extending intake dividers
Cale said the manifold wasn't the best on restarts..... I assume that is when more of the fuel is being drawn from deeper in the plenum at partial throttle? I think it had more to do with lower RPM at WOT than part throttle. Engines with these manifolds made less peak tq, but a lot more hp. These m...

Re: Extending intake dividers
It must work, here's one that was posted her years ago, mod 300-25.jpg This is a cool thread! I welded/ported 20 or so of these in the early 80's, but have no pictures. (The manifold in the picture looks identical and could have been one that we built.) Most were sold to Harry Ranier's team w/Cale ...

Re: Weirdest thing i've ever seen
I had this issue before - a long time ago. Tried soaking the head in mineral spirits, then acetone with no luck. We had a commercial dishwasher w/heater and used non-caustic soap for final cleaning of many small parts. We made room in the dishwasher for the head, used max heat and 60-minute cycle an...

My apologies to the mod's if not in the proper topic. Engine building easily fits the subject: Thankfully, Jay Leno is recovering from his accident and is doing fine. In a article penned for the Hagerty Magazine, he eloquently puts into words something I have been thinking about for some time. Its w...

Re: How will you go faster?
Stan, Can you implement a gear change compensation for each size tire? The performance difference would increase even more with the smaller tires. Mike, I am not sure what you asking. Do you mean the shift RPM? What I used was a file I had done for someone using their dyno data and then a guess to ...

It might be very interesting to examine what makes a drag car perform quicker and by how much. Obviously, the engine size and state of tune is a starting point. But several other factors will influence strip times. Torque curve Ambient air temperature Ambient barometer Humidity Fuel energy Air/Fuel...

Re: Oil squirters for NA engine?
well that increases reliability, gets aditional oil all across the cylinder walls and skirt, makes more sense in a grocery getter engine imo. but my question is, in an NA racing application, do you gain more from reduced piston temps than you loose from extra windage? Maximum advantage for piston o...

Re: Piston oil squirters in NASCAR engines
Every high performance and purpose built race engine uses piston oil squirters because it keeps the pistons cool which allows more aggressive tunes, thinner rings, and in regards to oiling allows for more crankcase vacuum. Blocking them off is really not seeing the forest for the trees and it doesn...

Re: Running an LS lean of peak at WOT?
The piston aircraft I fly do not like being anywhere near max power while also being on the lean side. Now, when cruising at around 14,000’ it is a different story. While cruising up there, even “full throttle” is only 65% of max power, which is like being about half throttle at sea level. Still, o...

Re: Running an LS lean of peak at WOT?
I'm looking at an endurance racing class where I'm limited on power, and fuel consumption is important. Could a ~16:1 AFR on 93 octane work? I know aircraft commonly cruise lean of peak, but this is at altitude where detonation is presumably less of a problem. Thanks. Carbureted or fuel-injected?
