Re: SBC - HP/TQ Guess and Cam Reccomendation?

If you're doing a budget build, I'd go with the Vortec intake and heads you already have and use the Comp 1.5:1 rocker arms also. Herbert has a decent "budget", 275/285, 220/225, 0.510/0.510, 112 LSA cam with the $30 option for an iron distributor gear for $315 The 112 LSA is the default l...

Re: Intake Manifold Porting Show ‘n Tell

Back before the internet, there was a circle track magazine that compared the Brodix HV1016 dual plan with a Victor Jr on a fairly healthy 406. Pretty sure it was a solid mechanical cam (in the 250s or 260s?) and an 850 DP, but that's about all I recall. I bought the rag and pretty sure I still have...

Re: Any experience with camshaft dynamic compression induced ping?

I guess since I have only “tuned” a handful of EFI cars that I’m having a hard time following why there’s an issue. If it’s pinging, or even showing a knock count you can’t hear, you need to pull timing in that or those areas. Even if it ends up In the low 20s or teens. Look at an LS timing table an...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

Not to complicate matters anymore than they already are. However if you don’t think you really need a forged crank or forged pistons, and don’t need to run a lot of RPM for an extended length of time you would come out with a lot more power with the same or less money going with a cast 3.75 or 3.8” ...

Re: Ring Pack Thickness: Question

I’m a little late to the party, especially being “that guy”. However, if you google “thin piston rings dyno” you’ll get an older speedtalk thread and a couple articles showing ring swap dyno pulls. The “Enginelab.com” article includes blow-by measurements. Obviously there could be variables that cou...

Re: Chevy 383 stroker build

Starting with a ~65 cc iron head isn't an ideal situation. As was mentioned, finding a piston with a volume between 7 and 16 cc isn't an off the shelf item. At least not from the usual sources. One build direction is using the JE/SRP forged 16 cc reverse dome piston w/ 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 ring pack (S...

Re: Seeking advice on a 383 SBC build

Thanks for the recommendations guys, the KB hypers at 12cc look promising. One followup question, I'm guessing for my application, 5.7" vs 6" rods really won't make much of a difference? Typically the 6" piston/rod combo will be lighter when using the same brand/series 5.7" pist...

Icon makes a reasonably priced 4032 alloy for 6" rod with 10cc flat-top using 1/16-1/16-3/16 rings in their FHR series (IC9961-030).

Re: L98 TPI 350 endurance race combination

Couple questions. Is turbo charging out of question? If not, it appears by far the way to go based on their point system. What would be your typical cruising MPH? (Transmission, rear gear, and intake related) Other initial comments and questions below. Some of the 89 350 TPIs are reported to have co...

I cut off 3-4" of the header's collector and had a collector rings welded to the header and front of the "AR Collector". It was may daily driver and I never ran it uncapped.

Re: Any downsides to anti reversion mufflers/devices?

This is the place I bought all the pieces to make up the 36" long (4"x8") terminator box I used to replace the mid-muffler and the two bullet mufflers on my 2009 G8 GT. https://www.coneeng.com/mufflers.html I can't say how much the increase in performance was from just the terminator ...

Re: Head Porters: Eye health question

Been wearing contacts for 40 years. Like you I usually get around 40 days use out of a pair and never take them out - these are high water content as most extended were contacts are. The higher the water content, the more oxygen is able to pass through - I can't wear the lower water content contacts...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project

Thanks for the input guys. Gets me thinking, so I tested just the base with clay radius 254 cfm. Add shortie runner with clay 244 cfm, bolt it to the head that flows 237 cfm at .5@ lift and all together it flows 217 cfm. Just like series resistors. Thanks, Charlie Rev, If you are talking about this...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project

I just hated the TB that came with the FIRST- modified my plenum to use the OEM fuel rails and TB, don't know why FIRST had to totally reinvent that aspect since BIG aftermarket TB's were readily available. What is known as the FIRST now was originally designed by AirSensor out of Seattle Washingto...

Re: Ported Chevy 083 heads, the tpi project

So maybe the question should be for a hard running 355 with a 6500rpm redline how much flow do you need? Thanks, Charlie I guess the question I have is what are you trying to get out of this for your friend? What you're doing, ported stock base and plenum, ported SLP runners siamesed to about the h...
