Re: Can a leaking exhaust valve cause piston galling?

I think it's within the realm of possibility. We know that an exhaust valve relies on it's duration on the valve seat to help transfer heat from the valve so its logical to think that any imperfection in the seat and valve will not cool the valve as well as it should. Also exhaust pulses coming back...

Re: Wrist pin into the second land.

Mark , I have done it before using pin buttons . "I" don't like it because we try hard to keep oil from migrating above the oil ring and putting the pin above the oil ring provides a pathway for oil to go above the oil ring easily. If you went to a 1.2x1.2 top and second with a .250 down top ring ,...

I find it very interesting. About 25 years ago half the people that I knew had copper bracelets, I scoffed of course--just another California fad. But maybe not huh?

Re: Lash caps thickness

Is there a standard thickness for lash caps intended for 11/32 valve stems? Never used them but I may have to as it seems the 5.140 length exhaust valves I need are scarce. This is on a single shaft SBM. Thanks. Mine were .062 thick in the crown and I had to shorten the length because they were con...

Re: Original 327 going back in my 64 Corvette with mods

I don't have the numbers in front of me but I know that between the TFS Twisted and any normal 23 degree SBC head there are substantial differences in valve locations. So be sure to check for PTV clearance.

Re: stock 289 rebuild/pistons

we found 3 pistons with the second ring land broken,, both the 1st and second rings are intact and not broken .. I am going to second what Piston Guy said. Broken ring lands are almost certainly from detonation. I've seen detonation damage piston tops and top ring lands, but so I can understand it,...

Re: SRP piston question.

Nowhere did I see you say if its a BBC or SBC, if its around 4.468 bore it is a CPC502 . JE probably made a million of them , the overbore replacement is pt# 281919. Check the bore first so that we know what engine we're dealing with. I think the dome is only 8cc and it looks like a closed chamber d...

Seems like rings along with pistons of course have a rough life, cant see why better quality ductile iron could not be used for the second ring.
Ring tension is greater when comparing Ductile iron vs grey iron, bad for gas mileage I would imagine.

Re: Experience w/ Rebco Machine piston mods?

., The really great thing about Eric is that he does all these processes without screwing up the ring grooves Some shops are not so good. Please explain how others might screw up ring grooves. Other than paying attention what does Rebco do differently to avoid ring land screw ups. Distorting the gr...

Re: Maximuim Pin to lock Clearance

I agree with Charlie, While its not the number that we're wanting to hear it's still OK. The round locks are usually the same wire diameter for .975, .980, .984 and .990 Lets say the wire is .072, the formula for the groove dia. is: pin diameter plus .072 plus .010=1.057 Would be different for .990 ...

Re: Winters Foundry , Snowflake logo

Hmmm Where is Comp located? Many people in Mooresville are talking about it too. I personally think that its been in works for some time as Vic has been out here numerous times. Obviously it was understood that you meant Comp. The question is, who says Edelbrock is moving to where Comp is? No one i...

Re: Winters Foundry , Snowflake logo

The investors that own Edelbrock bought Comp Cams and will be moving Edelbrock to Tenn. I bet Curt Hooker knew this and retired and it's probably why they laid off Dr Rick Roberts. Arias used Buddy Barr almost exclusively which was way more business than most people were aware. Who says Edelbrock i...
