Re: LS3 Carbed build

Chad, i was looking at rules for masters of motors for this year and looking at Eric Roycraft winning race engine challenge LS3 with tunnel ram and 2 x carbs. with your LS3 and a compression rule of 12.5:1,do you have an opinion on where your engine would sit in the competition?? hope you don't min...

Re: 50* Seats and Cam Duration

Would that be time well spent ?? :) I decided to,... Shut the valve sooner to trap more air!! And calculate my "dynamic comp" to get it just right !!! Run all the specs through a cranking comp calculator to make sure it is spot on !!! Keep the ex valve shut later to help build more TQ !!! There,.. ...

Re: LS3 Carbed build

Chad, I seen on the other thread you talking about piston speed, I put the some inputs into pipemax and I understand that I don't have all the correct parameters but at 8400 rpm it shows piston speed Just over 5000 fpm Does this sound close and if so what would be the limit for OEM rods apart from o...

Re: Minimum Cross Sectional Area: Question

IMO, the key isn't a cylinder head or a manifold, it's the camshaft. A Super Stock 358 with a 1.6in² pinch peaks at 7400. I find this statement interesting especially from a head porter, Surely application specific, I can't see running a super stock camshaft for a 170 cc head with as cast port loca...

IMO, the key isn't a cylinder head or a manifold, it's the camshaft. A Super Stock 358 with a 1.6in² pinch peaks at 7400. An interesting fact and right on topic. For the record, what kind of CR does a Super Stock engine have? The 1.6in² would reflect the "stock" nature of the heads correct? I'd to ...

Re: 50* Seats and Cam Duration

When you use a steeper seat is making the throat bigger than 90% part of the trade off?? No, there is no set throat percentage that comes with the decision to use a steeper seat. The throat percentage is just a result of the decisions on seat angles and widths you decide on that will fit the castin...

Re: Gains porting afr195 on sbc 388

There was not airflow meter used at dyno. It could be also that there is hydraulic pump up, or valve bounce. I did not measure the cam profile and valvetrain weights to calculate required spring forces, just checked that springs were within specs. I would had expected that with this much cam the po...

When you use a steeper seat is making the throat bigger than 90% part of the trade off?? What angles and widths on your bottom cut or cuts into throat do you need, I am curious as well,

Re: Gains porting afr195 on sbc 388

I think that is where that size engine would peak especially with airgap, it will really choke it down as in available airflow. Looking at the reworked numbers, seems like going in the right direction, I am curious how the exhaust port sounds on the bench as I see a slight dip in the high lift numbe...

Thought i read one of his posts that said he always touched them a bit.
Thanks Jim,
I wasn't sure, but nothing would surprise me with Big Joe, if anyone could do it with as cast heads Joe could. :D

Re: Gains porting afr195 on sbc 388

Any independent flow tests to see how realistic that 308cfm number is? Are they pretty close to 195cc’s? The 2019 catalog doesn’t seem to use the term “race ready” for 195 SBC heads any longer. They are both “Eliminator” heads, but “Street” or “competition”. The street 195’s have 2.050 intake valve...
