Re: Fel Pro rear seal issues

James, I had a brown rear main leak badly on SFT cam break in,pulled engine, could not find anything out of place so replaced with blue seal and no problems, my thoughts were the lip seal area seemed really soft. I have also seen issues when people over baffle breathers packing in sponge and steelwoo...

Re: Promaxx 225 heads

First off if your motor is only 355 cid, or even 383 cid you will need to be buzzing it well .above 8K rpm to make good usage of 225 CC SBC heads It’s a 434 cubic inch engine i have. Maybe i should have mentioned that.. I’m looking for good heads, that can use a standard rocker arm. I’we been eyeba...

Re: Flat Tappet vs Roller Specs

What was so secretive about that build? No secrets. I just wanted an answer to the original question. I wasn't looking for a cam recommendation but rather some info on how to compare different cam type specs. The only real way is to measure both cams in the block ,degree wheel, dial gauge rocker geo...

Re: 385 SBC Build

Id use the RHS235 and a cam that is at least 10 degrees larger with more lift. should be in the 600s. on a side not i think i have that exact cam you posted for sale. Where would peak tq and hp on the dyno from your experience, how far past peak would you recommend shift point 500 rpm - 1500rpm? Wi...

Re: variable length header collector

Appreciate your response, your dyno and then track testing is really only way to get good data, I spent 12 months track testing 450hp SBC 4 into 1headers and collectors and exhast/ no exhaust Smaller 4-2-1 tri-y collector lengths etc Including carb and jet chages,I have no real evidence of a specifc...

Re: variable length header collector

Indeed it would be simpler to stick to one length and be done with it. I consider it sort of a science project ;) How would the hp/trq curve change if I could lengthen/shorten the collector a few inchens when going through the rpms. Worth persuing or not - I don't know. Maybe having the ideal colle...

Re: Most Power from Stock 400-509 casting?

FWIW GM decided to save a few bucks and retain the open head bolt holes in the 400 blocks. They also sculpted cylinder wall material at each of those head bolt holes, so the wall thickness in those 5 areas is pretty damn thin, under 1/8”. The Dart block does not suffer from this design flaw. Design...

Here is what I ran with my SBC 358, .040 350, the car ran the best of 11.29@117 flat top 358 ARP bolts cast crank, PM rods 9.8:1 compression Sportsman II home ported heads with 7/16" Roller Rockers and a stud girdle Engle .600 lift cam, 250° duration@ .050 on a 108LCA 1 3/4 Super Comp headers but I...

Re: Building a new 355 SBC

I'm sorry I don't know how to do pictures. Its a 2 bolt main block. The heads will probably be world products 200 cc int heads. 2.02 & 1.60 valves angle plug too. Looking to shifting around 6500 rpm. Super Victor intake and a solid cam somewhere around the 250-260 degress at 50. maybe 550 lift. Wil...

Re: Did I chose the wrong heads?

Any idea what rpm you will turn through the lights with 28" tyre and 4.1s?? Lunati cam might be a bit big but why not try it ?? What stick did DV recommend?? I don't have a clue to be honest. It's a complete new build. From a longevity standpoint, the cam I had ground for it makes more sense. Less ...

Re: AF lean out on 2-3 change

Something to consider related to A/F change after a shift: Assuming the A/F exiting the carburetor remains the same or nearly so regardless of WOT air flow change, what will be the effect of intake port air velocity change on ratio of puddle to vapor? As mean port velocity is related to mean piston...

Re: Did I chose the wrong heads?

As far as the cam goes, I gave a cam manufacturer all of my info after I figured out how I wanted to build it. He ground the cam that I currently have, for my combo. He asked me how many RPM I was looking to turn it, I told him 6,800 - 7,000 max. If I put a larger cam in it, it's just going to run ...
