Re: milling off choke horn
---here's a link to a story and a few photos I did years ago about Holley 4 barrel choke horns and air flow testing http://www.ryanbrownracing.com/Bill_Jones_Page_4.html Thanks for sharing Bill, Big gains in epoxy top and thin throttle shafts. When you flow tested did you do each venturi separately...

Re: milling off choke horn
does anyone know if there were any real tests or dyno pulls on carbs with and without the choke horn on or off. we have been diascussibg this very thing this week in relation to dropped air cleaner bases and many have suggested to mill the carb choke horn for better air flow. thanks Art in NY My op...

Re: Dyno tuned 434 SBC 11:1 AFR 245 Solid Roller
I think once a street type car starts running over 135 mph google theory goes out the window. Same for a engine that makes good hp/ cube alot of things we think we know are dead wrong. Scott has basically added 200 hp or so to the car and it a new ball game in my opinion, unless you have decades of ...

Re: Ring gap suggestions
I did check the old rings. I believe the previous owner just purchased some rings that were the “prefit” type. It was an NA motor but the ring gap on both was .025 maybe closer to .026. According to JE’s website they recommend for a moderate boost street engine to gap the top ring .0050 x cylinder ...

Re: Ring gap suggestions
Too many mixed opinions when trying to Google and look up on forums. Forged pistons in a 383 small block with a Weiand 177. Just had the assembly balanced and crank polished. Probably gunna run 6-8psi of boost. Pistons measure right at 4.037 where JE suggests measuring the skirt. All the cylinders ...

Re: New Dart SHP 200cc Heads
With heads that where developed with a big concern to wet flow as the Darts have been as late, noise is secondary to me in terms of the the intake port, in the exh port noise is very bad! If I hear noise from a intake flow test when I have the intended manifold bolted up , then as long as I don’t s...

Re: New Dart SHP 200cc Heads
Does anyone have experience with the New Dart SHP Heads? I'm really interested in the flow numbers for the 200cc version. The Dart website still has all the old information and when I called the guy said they don't have a spec sheet to share yet. He did say that the reason they brought out a new ve...

Re: dropped base air cleaner
Just for general information
This set up was down 3hp between 6000-7000 rpm on dyno last week
570 horse 383sbc.
I have run at track last 5 years with this set up.
Yes it is through the hood.

Re: 2.56 Gear, Stock Converter, 4100 Pounds, NA 11s?
Successful first outing with the new VortecPro engine. Drove 190 miles to the track, noting about 13 mpg (what can I say, it's fun to accelerate). This was the first race using a tachometer in the Monte. Highway speed with the 2.56 gears MC Tach.jpeg Arrived at the track MC US131.jpeg It comes out ...

Re: SBC How Much HP with FP 90314 ?
How much Horsepower can we get through a Felpro 90314 on a 350 ? Lets call the port size as 2" x 1.25", Felpro lists it a little smaller. How much HP can we make NA as a race motor ? and how much as a streetable NA motor ? Back when all we had was Fuelie heads that was your reliable gasket grabbing...

Re: Finding some more ponies
Hey guys, I have a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer SS, spun a rod bearing a while back and had the engine rebuilt as a 403ci LS2 stroker. The engine made very good power(662hp@6650) for what it is but I am looking for ways to pick up another 25hp or so without killing the manners the engine has already. It'...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
The lower oil pressure readings compared to vac and no vac are normal I believe as your oil pressure gauge is a reference to atmosphere. My engine has 50 psi hot at 7000rpm no vac. I believe with a small oilpan 5qrt With vacuum oil pressure lowering at high rpm is considered normal from what I know....

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
I have no experience… but am very curious & interested. The guy that does my machine work has worked on race engines for decades. He says vacuum pumps work well and sees no downside. I can see how one could rig up a deal where a tank was charged up from fast idle that would last several seconds…I t...

Re: Factory style roller lifters vs link bar style
I've never compared the 2 side by side... Is there a significant weight difference between hydraulic rollers of the factory type vs link bar types? And how much does this affect valve spring requirements? Talking about sbc and sbf here for the most part I don't think weight of lifter plays much of ...
