Re: Edelbrock AvS2 dumb question
You might also look into fixed orifice pcv valve. Like GM went to on some LS. I've been using the FRAM FV410 on SBC. It has a 2.5 mm orifice. it removes a little of the variables from carb tuning.

Re: DART Blocks
You might check with cnc motorsports as they sell fully machined race prep Dart blocks. Since the Dart blocks seem to need a little tweeking anyway I bought my last Dart 400 in the form of a short block from Shafiroff. The parts situation has been terrible for Gen 1 SBC guys. It is to the point wher...

Re: Bad Valve Stems?
Not sure I've ever seen chrome plating on the stems of aftermarket Stainless valves. They rely on proper material and heat treatment.

That sounds like a heat treatment issue to me.

Re: Trick Flow 175cc "Double hump" heads.
I helped a guy out with a 1966 corvette 327 300 HP car. Engine needed a rebuild his stock heads needed a lot of work. Got him to use these heads on the 327 with a mild isky 270/280 mega cam isky 205 valve spings and edelbrock EPS intake. Along with an old single point distributor Just shifting it at...

Re: 402 main bearing caps
I hope you don’t mind me asking. I’ve been told over the years that a 402 is nothing more than a .030 over 396. Is this true? Was the L34 option advertised as a 402 or a 396? Thanks Sort of a 396 had a bore of 4.094 and the 402 had a bore of 4.125 so it was .031 over bore. The block castings had so...

Re: Sbc timing chain question
Bill Grumpy Jenkins used the stock GM single on his 331 Pro Stock engines back in the 1970s so that should tell you something. Not sure If I would want to try it with a circle track car where your on and off the throttle a bunch.

I'm fairly certain it means those were made for Crower by Johnson lifters.

Re: what 1st gen SBC do you like most and worst?
Another vote for the 1970 LT-1 for my favorite. That 110 HP 262 would have to be the most gutless SBC that I ever rode in.

Stihl 4 mix technology come out around 2002. All these style of engines from Stihl use a plastic cam. Even with the tiny valve springs I seen a number of them fail.

Re: Push Rod Length: Shorter vs Longer
When your calculated push rod length falls between two standard measurements, do you go longer or shorter? Longer will in most cases make more power from what I know. Years ago one test I seen on a gen 1 SBC they dyno tested a optimum length pushrod for geometry than ran a .050 shorter pushrod on t...

Re: Header primary diameter for a small motorcycle engine
I might be way off here but, I would be taking a look at the Yamaha FZ6R engine and its exhaust system. It was made from a older gen R6 engine and is tuned more for mid range via smaller ports, smaller header primaries, and smaller throttle bodies. Lots of engines on ebay for good prices.

Re: engine code id
The numbers might actually be from the marine application ? That it is very possible. What seems odd about this set up is the duel engines with the 462 heads. Would be interesting to know if this was a performance boat or not. Not many marine or farm trucks used the higher compression 64 cc heads o...
