I'm not sure about NHRA or any other drag racing groups, but IMCA requires an SA-2005 or newer rated helmet. The SA is for automotive racing and has a flame retardant lining. If you buy an SA rated helmet, most sanctioning bodies will accept it as well as the tracks.

I agree with the ball bypass. That's what we used.

Check with Howe Racing or QA-1. The both make rebuild-able ball joints for racing. You can get different stud lengths for each of their ball joints

Need to consider the tires and surface first. Are the tires hard and difficult to hook up? Does the track go dry slick during the features or stay heavy. It matters.
