Travis, like I posted no blend work was done, it was flow tested like you see in my photo with just the partial valve guide rework.

Re: 2.00” or 2.02” intake valve in a 351w D0OE head?

Travis here’s the results of getting that 1.96” in the E7TZ head. Note that this 1.96” Pontiac valve is a 30 degree seat. Here’s the details before I post the flow test numbers. Valve seat OD 1.950”. 30 degree seat width .045”. 45 degree 1st bottom cut .050. Deep. 60 degree bottom cut .308” deep. Th...

Re: 2.00” or 2.02” intake valve in a 351w D0OE head?

No, I have not flow tested it because that was just a ruffed in valve job, but for you I will finish that work tomorrow and post the results for you in the evening. Yes, fully and maxing out what you can do on some cast iron heads by hand totals up to 55 hours or more with the flow testing involved ...

Re: Port volume vs flow vs velocity

Your intake flow numbers to make 430 hp would in the 218 cfm range at .500”.

Re: 2.00” or 2.02” intake valve in a 351w D0OE head?

Ok, here’s what a 1,96” valve looks like in a E7TZ head which is all I have SB wise on hand, and it does not have the big old plug, but if it did it still looks like it would work with a tad of grinding on the plug boss.

In them shot of the very ruffed in valve job the seat OD is at 1.940”

Re: full groove main/roadrace

Unless those 2 failed rods hit the heads you need to look else where for why the rods bent because it was not lack of oil! I would prefer to first cross drill the crank if it’s not already to feed more oil to the rods then run fully grooved bearings in terms of a motor running boost! I might conside...

Re: AMC 401 Intake Manifold MPG

Yes, only 90 psi is very bad, but so is 140! That’s why I mentioned the timing chain as I would be expecting 160s on the good cylinders otherwise, Don’t be so fast to jump on the aftermarket aluminum head bigger port band wagon for what your looking to do and get out of the vehicle. In stock form at...

Installing seats when the throat is so oversized would do nothing but drop off flow numbers that are there all ready.

Re: Port volume vs flow vs velocity

A Diesel really can’t be used as a comparison here since there at the max VE for any given rpm it happens to be at.

Re: 2.00” or 2.02” intake valve in a 351w D0OE head?

Well your stuck between the rock and and a hard place! About all you can do is have a flow test done and see what turns up in terms of reaching your hp goals. If it where me I would eat the time loss and start over or get some used aftermarket heads that will likely flow more then those ever could a...

Re: Port volume vs flow vs velocity

Lets put some needed details to that last post ok? Port velocity goes up at max lift being applied only when the percentage of air flow gain exceeds that of the percentage of area gain in the port choke / minimum port area location if it was reworked. Steve, so it looks like you picked up some 75 hp...

Re: AMC 401 Intake Manifold MPG

Also being rebuilt back in the 90s I would do a compression test to see where you at because 9 mpg is way off for a stock motor, I would expect that out of a motor with Cam of 235 @ .050 intake duration, not a stock one assuming the tune is in the ball park! This makes me have concerns that you timi...

Re: 2.00” or 2.02” intake valve in a 351w D0OE head?

Well you can check what you have to work with now in terms of a 1.94” valve and chamber shrouding. Place you valve in , set up your flow bench valve opener and measure you clearance between the valve edge and the chamber wall as crank up thru .550” lift. In a perfect world at each lift point seen yo...
