The OTC is real nice. The Kent Moore has fairly thin inserts for different pistons and pin diameters. It works well and can take pistons with not a lot of room. You may want to check it out. You can get used on eBay from time to time.

Sounds to me you did the right thing. He wouldn’t listen to you and if you had reset the pins it probably never would have been good enough for him, especially if the pistons got scuffed or damaged.

I have a Kent Moore fixture. It supports the rod similar to what you’re doing.

I would tell him not to sweat it over .050, especially since the rod’s gonna be off center anyway. If it doesn’t hit the bore wall then don’t worry about it. Don’t blow out bowls under the seat and you should be fine. I had two seats sink about .020 in a C3 head. High rpm, 320 lbs of spring pressure closed and an aggressive roller. I get valves from Xceldyne. The intakes have an 0.060 margin and the exhaust have an 0.080. I've run margins on reground valves as low as 0.050 on the intakes and 0.70 on the exhaust without killing the head. Coating helps but removes the sharp edges on the back cuts after polishing.
