Someone took an angle milled head from Ron’s and surfaced it all the way over pretty much ruining the heads.
Unless you plan on welding the bottom of the port and flange to get back the material those heads are doorstops.

Re: NHRA STOCK valve job
Stocker valve job can be any angle and as many angles as you want with bowl blending down to the top of the guide boss.

Re: NHRA STOCK valve job
Stock eliminator is not an entry level class and it’s not inexpensive. I’ve run every thing from Compitition eliminator to Super stock. I’ve stepping out of a Top dragster to stock and I feel it’s a tougher class and has more honor I would certainly argue that a good super stock engine is more labo...

Bill
The OTC is real nice. The Kent Moore has fairly thin inserts for different pistons and pin diameters. It works well and can take pistons with not a lot of room. You may want to check it out. You can get used on eBay from time to time.

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?
Sounds to me you did the right thing. He wouldn’t listen to you and if you had reset the pins it probably never would have been good enough for him, especially if the pistons got scuffed or damaged.

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?
I have a Kent Moore fixture. It supports the rod similar to what you’re doing.

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?
I would tell him not to sweat it over .050, especially since the rod’s gonna be off center anyway. If it doesn’t hit the bore wall then don’t worry about it. I’d also tell him that you always run the risk of damaging the piston on the pin press. You could also ask why he didn’t get pistons for float...

Re: Head Studs or Bolts?
Does the coolant seal? Does the oil seal? Does the cylinder seal? If yes to all those, then you’re probably wasting your time worrying about it. I am trying to prevent all of those things as I build the engine.....which is why I asked the question. The engine is not yet built. So I don't know if wi...

Re: Valve seat recession on alum heads w big springs?
Don’t blow out bowls under the seat and you should be fine. I had two seats sink about .020 in a C3 head. High rpm, 320 lbs of spring pressure closed and an aggressive roller. I welded the bowls and seat registers, counterbored and installed new seats. Keep an eye on your valve lash. You’ll know som...
