you ever run a brand new engine and you start thinking something is wrong ? Then you start thinking its going to have to come right back apart ? I built a 454 with LS7 pistons, brodix rectangle port heads and a healthy solid cam a few months ago and ran it on a stand. It sounded good and i made a yo...

back half book

i'm doing my first back half on a race car. The car is my friends 78 Pontiac Lemans with a 423 SBC. He bought a competition engineering back half kit with a 4 link and a fabricated 9" housing. I've never tackled a job this big and i was wondering if anyone could suggest an instructional book ? With ...

Re: Protected Coyotes in California

in the last couple years wild boars have started to become a problem here in Saskatchewan where I live. I shot a couple of them. The government wants rid of them, hunters want them to stay around and land owners are on the fence. They are all descendants of wild boar farms that went broke 20 years a...

BBC connecting rods

I took a stock set of BBC truck connecting rods into the machine shop to get re-sized and new pistons pressed on. I never looked closely at them or anything, i just had them all on a wire from some motor i took apart years ago. The machinist called me to let me know that he was hesitant to work on t...

Re: low buck 454

well you guys are going to be disappointed in me. In fact i'm a little disappointed in me. Since the first priority is to sell the engine, therefore keep the cost down. I went with the comp 11.602-4 hyd thumper cam. This allows me to use stock rockers and the motor will be somewhat dummy proof. I've...

Re: Protected Coyotes in California

once they overpopulate they get mange. Then they starve to death and lose all their fur, starting with their tail fur. As they starve they got more bold. I shot one standing by my house this winter. Here they freeze to death before they starve to death. A few years ago i shot 35 coyotes within about...

Re: cheap chassis to save drag racing

Drag racing is dying because no one is interested about old 2 valve american V8s and Holleys. Youngsters want turbos, 4 valve heads, overhead cams and other modern technology but the problem is rules dont allow them. And index classes are not racing, young people want to race. Comp Eliminator with ...

Re: low buck 454

also others have suggested a Jones cam or a Cos-cam. I feel like i would really like to try those but maybe someday when i'm building a serious engine that i can test them on the track and see how they compare against whatever else i might allready have. I do appreciate the suggestions though.

Re: low buck 454

F-bird - how about Lunati 30110513 ? I think you convinced me to get a solid. 243 / 251 .586 / .600 110 LSA 104 ICL its just about impossible to find the type of cams i like to run for low buck street blaster style engines. I like a tight LSA, big duration (240 - 250 area) and low lift to be easy on...

Re: low buck 454

if it goes down the track it would be my wife or son driving it. I don't want to have to touch anything on it. I allready have one race car to worry about.

Re: low buck 454

Thanks guys, i'm glad you helped me get this figured out. I bought the H693CP .030 pistons with a 22cc dome. For a relatively low buck motor with the Edelbrock E-street heads now i feel like 500 hp is attainable. I've built plenty of 8.0 - 1 CR BBC 454's and i know they can be fun but i decided to s...

Re: low buck 454

thanks Eric

this is the calculator i use :

http://www.csgnetwork.com/compcalc.html

I'm sure its correct and any errors would be due to me. I did not rock the piston down at the beginning. That will be the why i get higher CR than everyone else. I should have done that.
