Re: What ll this make? Rammed 496 bbc

I would have guessed 700 - 725. I hope you are right with the 800. Lots of 540's don't make 800.

Re: How will you go faster?

Yes. On a well prepped surface, the radials ARE that much better. Tire performance is another bag of worms. A tire is a gear, an air spring that changes with pressure, and comes with various compounds that change with temperature. A lot of time and money has been spent testing tires. And the job is...

Re: BBC rear main leak

i often use permatex flange sealant for the length of the cap at the very back of the block. Not on the rear main seal itself. And don't assemble it dry or let it sit for a long time so that it goes dry before you run it. I wouldn't expect any help from felpro. I'm not saying you installed it wrong,...

Re: How will you go faster?

I have stacks of timeslips and every time i think i know something, I end up being wrong. I grew up reading car craft and hotrod magazines and they all said to use mild parts and build torque. Just that you don't win any races that way. As far as what works and what doesn't, I've found big differenc...

Re: Two piece connecting rod design.

looks interesting, hopefully some dyno testing is coming. Will the new pin share some of the downward force with the crankshaft ? And as it goes down eventually there will be a point where its not really pushing on the crank but only on that pin ?
Lots of questions for an engineer !! not me !

Re: The new G100UL Avgas

I've been using avgas in my 12.9 CR BBC for the last 5 years. Its around $2 per liter vs $7 for race gas. And it works perfect. My local airport has a cardlock pump where i can just go buy fuel anytime i want.

Re: Valve adjustment

i like the ICEO method. I usually go 3/4 turn on a stockish engine unless the instructions with the lifters say different. If you do it on fully filled up lifters it may just run rough for a minute after you start it. Its easy to make a mistake on setting valves. Needs your full attention. I wouldn'...

Re: Cranking compression?

i recently pulled a stock TBI engine out of a 90's chevy suburban that was rebuilt. My intention was to sell it as a good runner. I had never driven it myself but i had seen it run. I did a compression test on a stand in front of the potential buyer and it was around 100-110 psi. Neither of us were ...

Re: How far a moderator of Don Terrils Speed talk can go?

rather than cancelling someone, we could allow people the freedom to make their own judgements. There is value in DV's stuff, even if it comes with some attitude. I was contacted by a speedtalk regular many years ago who gave me alot of wisdom and good advice, even though he turned out to be painful...

Re: SBC & oil pressure at idle

i had a 377 SBC (400 block, 350 crank) that had low oil pressure and no matter what i did i couldn't fix it. However i was just a kid and didn't really know what i was doing or how to measure stuff correctly. It had about 5 psi at hot idle and it never went above about 50 psi even when revved to 750...

Re: emulsion tuning for dual quads? experts needed

I'm not an expert but i've been playing with a 2 x 4 setup for a few years. Were your carbs designed and built specifically for a 2 x 4 application ? Mine were not and they initially were way rich at idle and cruise speeds. From reading your post i wouldn't want to make any suggestions because i wou...

big block chevy lifter help

I bought a bunch of used parts including some solid roller lifters from comp cams. I want to know if they are the standard height or the +.300 taller for use in aftremarket blocks. What would i measure to find out ? They measure about 2.25" from the wheel center to the link bar center.

murder in my backyard

Anyone read all the news about the big manhunt in Canada ? The Indian reserve where most of it happened is around 6 miles from me. The one white fellow that got killed for his car was an usher at a little church I attend. I tell you friends, Canada desperately needs God. The reserve system is a disa...
