How about some gas ports or Singh grooves towards the thick side of the piston dome.

Re: Benefits of tapered quench for NA applications?
A pic of supposed Bob Glidden Boss piston I found on facebook. This has been a great discussion. My recollection when ideal situation where you get supersonic burn (flow) in a tube, to stop it you must increase the area, like a step header. A decrease in area would speed it up until it hits the wall...

Re: Benefits of tapered quench for NA applications?
No expert and have not looked at this since early 1980 U of MN engineering lab modeling Combustion and Detonation. I would like to see the BTC CFD of the tapered squish to see if the flow is clearing out the end gas area. The tapered squish posted earlier appear to be parallel spaced but directed up...

Re: Cold lash after 500 miles, yikes!
In mid 70's, I stamped a adjustment procedure I think found in the Chev factory performance manual (MOPAR too) on a piece of sheet aluminum and pop riveted it to the firewall where you rotate every 90' through the firing order and set one IN and on EX . So at #1 TDC firing, you set IN 2 and EX 8. Ro...

Re: Engine Hrs. vs Engine Miles ???
Ford usually states about 33 miles equivalent for each idle hour. My experience with Ford squads (1981 v8 to 2009 Mods) is that they could use a quart or two of oil and if no one is checking they would get to none on the stick between oil changes. Needed to use the correct oil weight and I think 5w2...

Does anyone have pics of a prostock intake of the vintage Bob Glidden crash where he covered it up with his jacket or maybe some more recent before going to FI? I would like to see what everyone was covering up. Will we see gentle radii or some hidden steps to control reversion?

x2 for the damaged plastic reservoir. I had my new Dodge back for service and they punched a hole in it to get the fluid out. Never got better til I replaced the reservoir. The plastic is a oil separator and remove some of the foaming. Used the correct fluid also with the ATF modifier. More recently...

Re: Head Deck Scratch
That bevel design it the worst thing to have when a combustion chamber is detonating. The decreasing cross-section speeds( looking as 2 dimensional) up the flame or combustion pressure wave and puts it right on the top ring.

Re: Suggestions for stuck pistons on a motor that set for years.
Get or borrow a Digital inspection camera to take a peak what is inside through the spark plug. You might find some large spots of rust in the bore or maybe some mice made a nest or dropped seeds in there. Can also fish thru the intake to back of valve or valve covers to see some rust issue on cam, ...

Re: Conical valve springs.
Is there any thought that you can run lower seat pressure with conicals? I saw the 150# installed seat pressure also and thought they would never be used with a solid roller. I could see the smaller retainer weight and harmonic and spring surge control benefits.

This is blown with GMC 71 type blower right? Do you run crank support or BBC snout on the crank hub? What compression? I think you need a different fuel VP 110 is not enough. Is this carb or mfi or efi?

Re: New Rebuild Won't Turn Over
Can you rotate the engine opposite of normal direction? I have seen engines sit a long time and even short time overnight without the intake or exahust ports plugged and covered where a mouse filled headers or ports with sunflower seeds, dog food and made nests. Can you blow air through spark plug w...
