Re: Dimpling a LS port

For the record I’m going to test many things on this head many of which come from commenters. I will revisit the dimpling and wet flow with spray and velocities. I don’t know that it will answer any or all of your questions but it will give you info. You can do what you want with it. I have things ...

Re: Dimpling a LS port

https://youtu.be/LqFpBzBLvWY By Eric He should flow each port several times and take the average for comparison sake, especially since the largest difference between them all is only 1.5%. This is SOP in laboratories when weighing things. I still think golf ball dimples are misunderstood by most la...

Re: camshaft specs for 79 Corvette L82

I did know the answer to this at one time as I used to use alot of them back in the day. They make a surprising amount of power for something so tame. My guess as my memory will probably lie by now. Is... 222 int dur @.050" 112 seperation .480" lift but likely exh side. Int lift would be m...

Re: Increased PTV clearance as a by product of .....?

This is a camking area for sure. But I suspect you unknowingly are a gigo victim. My guess is using intake centerline method allows for way to much error. If you had set the cam up with intake opening btdc. Then took clearance at crank degree data points. You would find your answer.. But Its a guess...

Re: Oil scraper function

Mopar performance claims something like 15 or 20 h.p. from there windage tray. I tried the mopar one on the dyno years ago. I got a valid rusult. 17 h.p. peak gain on a 440. And was a very lousy pan. Shallow with a cube sump in the middle. I have steered toward the use of factory windage trays since...

Re: Oil scraper function

Thank you Walter. That is the kind of example of information why I am trying to dig deeper. I am not asking anyone to describe the basic function or idea behind a crankshaft scraper or windage tray. But believe the science goes much deeper for those who care to open their mind. I am sure some on her...

Re: LS "out of order"

I believe the firing order finishes with the middle 4 cylinders in succession and in a circular pattern. I wonder how that effects pumping eficiency? Are the middle 4 cylinders trying to compeat for air All 3 common firing orders have the middle 4 cylinders firing in order. Std: 4-3-6-5 4/7: 3-6-5-...

This is an older post of mine. I was surprised no one had any thoughts regarding this. So I am taking another swing.

Re: Oil scraper function

If you look below this thread there is a couple discussions on the subject that will explain it. Thank you. I did look and went to the links on youtube. I watched the old guy make tea and observed his fluid streams and secondary flow explanations. I read how the dropplet size effects thier destinat...

Oil scraper function

Im interested in a deeper understanding of oil scraper function. How exactly they collect and control oil. Example being. Does the edge with a space of .020 to say .050 actually scrape oil off or just collect it and gather it into a pool to drain off. Does it set up a low pressure sucking oil off or...

Re: Shelf life of unopened synthetic "racing" engine oil?

Interesting. Sub conciously I often shake the oil bottle prior to opening and pouring. I guess because years ago I thought incase any of the chem pack settles. I had better give it a shake. Been doing it ever since. But after reading this post. I won't any more. From now on I will look in the bottle...

Re: Super Flow 901 Rebuild

Also. Be kind to the servo. My understanding is they are very hard to get. And was a anti vibration block in there. We were told to leave it out. Was nervracking. But has been a few years and still works fine without it.

Re: Super Flow 901 Rebuild

Not sure in your area. But thats the round long stainless filter if memory serves me right. We got a replacement from "wix filters". Also the two larger sealed bearings in the unit are standard easy to get but pricey. And if you have not already. Get hold of superflow and get their seal up...

Re: speed talk dyno estimator

Data was std corrected not raw. Density altitude was checked and vapor pressure / baro all made correct before testing. Engine temps stabalized and all that. But honestly im speaking for the dyno operator/ dyno owner who would answer this better. He has over 50,000 dyno pulls in his lifetime and is ...
