Re: piston ring compressor

...(rip in the metal. One of the straps? It may be repairable, and it can work with only one if need be. Most of its trouble is caused by its range. If you cut the band down so it almost butts, without that excess there's a LOT less tension on those straps, and as long as the corner of a ring isn't...

Believe that's just a photo optical thing, the seal is offset, parting line.

Re: BBC rear main leak

Ya gotta look at this stuff before it goes in, sad but true. Touching it, twisting it, fondle & feeling it to make sure it's all there and ain't got any bad spots. Also, silicone/RTV IMO is just for filling gaps, like .002-3" & over, not for flat machined surfaces or the 2-piece seal's ends, though ...

...worry about the long ground electrode. If those plugs are sticking out as far as it looks from the carboned up threads, I'd worry too, but a bit more about why those 2. Are they really that exposed? There are some shorter reach, .700" & 5/8 I believe, or use a washer/s, and that'll let the head ...

Re: Just how important are street headers, really?

WAG's
Maybe some prototype, proof-of-concept, engine & body & chassis swap combo, a limited production run quicky that needed more then a one-off.
Lower weight or clearance issues, or maybe just removing a big cast iron heatsink that was too close to another component.

Re: SBC & oil pressure at idle

Got it back. It doesn't make any pressure at all... Drill in reverse???? Air in the gauge's line adds about 1 second & smooths out it's response. Dry filter takes about 3-4 sec & no more then 10, plus it's barely above zero pressure until it's full. A spring difference from 38 to 65 would be signif...

600 = 1200 @ crank rpm
Pump disassembled & checked for freely moving & seats with a click, relief valve?
If their drill isn't going bad and they've done this on more then a few, I'd hafta take their word for it.
VERRY unlikely to be the spring.
