Re: Resonator placement
https://www.thecairns.com/Impala/IMG_5229.jpg In the late 1960s several friends and foes removed the "resonators" from their 62-64 Impalas. The new exhaust sound was much deeper, and louder. I believe the resonators were the smaller mufflers shown in the above image. Funny, I was recollect...

1959 Mopar tech. BB SAE paper commented on the significant effect of inlet air temp on part throttle cruise knock.
Also the full throttle best torque timing variation with engine rpm.
Also their expectation that well done vacuum advance can improve fuel economy and driveability.

There was an engine masters episode where they tested some systems with pretty big pipes, and slightly smaller pipes.

"GM's problem " Also heard that over time electrolysis or something caused the 215s cast ribbed joint to get all nasty as only aluminum can. Or maybe other locations touched by coolant. No clue whether coolant can seep into the sleeve OD cast joint https://i0.wp.com/www.macsmotorcitygarage...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?
Back in the crappy driveability carbureted 1970s Exhaust Gas recirculation was a powerful NOx reduction tool. When EGR was happening, a bunch of ignition advance ( at part throttle) was added to get the forest filled with dead trees to ignite in time to push the pistons down in a reasonably useful f...

So AI called Dan Timberlake a "Guru" and "an experienced individual". If there were ever any doubts that AI is "Automated Imbecility" we now have our proof. “I don’t want to belong to any club that would accept me as one of its members.” Various versions attributed to G...

I'm sort of expecting you will find the rod and main journals are "standard" size, and the radiuses at the edges of the journals are .109" (7/64"). Coming up next - Wet method fluorescent Magna-flux. We got good results magnetizing cranks like this- single shot AC http://www.cent...

Re: Most aerodynamic Muscle Cars?
Came across of a picture of a 1969 corvair. With the closed off grill and flatter front bumper. If you could lower the nose about 8 inches it might not be bad. Though it was ironic "unsafe at any speed" would be a stable high speed platform. Also GM gave Corvairs a "chin spoiler"...

Re: Narrowing rods?
"On a V engine, I narrow the the side that fillet is on and re-chamfer."
Yeah, on V engines when two rods are on a common crank throw, the inserts may be offset in the rod nearly to the maximum, so removing material from the rod sides that touch can make the inserts touch.
Lots to check.

Re: Main bearing spacers and oil clearance questions
Before Plasti-gage Federal Mogul used to sell a set of calibrated sheet shims in various thicknesses to test bearing clearance as described above by installing between crank and bearing insert. I do not recall if they were metal or maybe plastic film.

There is an engine masters episode of motor home 440 with some thumper cam. They move the cam timing about 8 degrees in 4 degree increments.
moderately interesting.
