Re: Head Studs

Yeah Ken, I already had that in mind. I made a simple drill jig this morning so I do not have to put an engine in the mill. Only thing left to do with it press the drill bushings in when I get them next week. I will give the bolts another try with this one and torque them to 110. I think without bei...

Re: Head Studs

I mentioned earlier, the tune was off and lean. I feel that is the real issue here but out of caution and not wanting to do this again, I was suggesting something better to the customer.

I think the bolts will be fine with a good tune but I guess I am a little gun shy with these heads

Re: Head Studs

I am in kind of a dilemma where the customer doesn't want to pay more money to add extra bolts and has it in his head, if he ever wants to use different head?? there are holes in the block into water he has to deal with. Not sure what heads he will ...

Re: Head Studs

Thanks Ill check out the optitorque for a potential source. ARP is out on the long studs for the kit Bolts have about .250" clearance to bottom out The engine is a 7-8 lb boost torque storm blow through carb application. Heads show signs of leaking around multiple fire rings, Cometic MLS, but I thin...

Re: Head Studs

ARP is the only source. I thought there was another fastener company in CA that was mentioned on Engine Masters a while back but so far I have not found it.

Re: Head Studs

Unfortunately yes. Torque plate honed with bolts. Leaking past the fire rings on a few holes toward the exhaust side. May have to add extra bolts to get these heads to seal up but was considering trying studs also

Re: Welding iron head

Seat pocket is a tough spot to weld successfully. After welding you have an interrupted cut on a hard material and its no fun plus it usually fails. I have successfully drilled out the hole to a larger size, threaded it not all the way through with the tap, installed brass set screws rough cutting m...

Re: Jb weld

No offense taken.

The urethane sealer has been working for me. Its my understanding, urethane sealer is not porous but the primer is.

Re: Jb weld

I mostly use splashzone with good prep to include rough grinding and cleaning with automotive wax and grease remover. After

When I am done sanding it for the final time, I clean it with the wax and grease remover again and coat it with automotive urethane sealer using a brush
