Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

Richard Holdener doesn't have an opinion, he has a dyno. The 2.165/1.590-inch valve combo in this lsa test also responded favourably power wise to a 108* lsa https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1506-lobe-separation-angle-explained-and-how-it-affects-horsepower/ It’s a wide open throttle dyno test fro...

Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

Not saying DV did this but chassis dynos are extremely easy to manipulate. Years ago back when the Fox body Mustangs were all the rage and chassis dynos were relatively "new" there was a guy in New Jersey who had one in his Shop. He was in the Mustang magazines all the time. His business ...

Re: Datsun R 16 head porting advice?

Aaron Kelly is getting about 185bhp from a full prep, SCCA GT spec A13. Mike Jones does cams for Aaron as well.

The R16 has to have a SIR, correct? Unless you’re doing vintage now.

Re: Datsun R 16 head porting advice?

....on the upside tho, apparently Rebello in California is getting 180 - 185+ hp from these engines at 6500-6800 rpm, so....there is that. A 150 HP engine on Rebello's dyno would show 200+ HP . You can't believe anything they state as to HP. It's all marketing. They were claiming an L6 engine combo...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?

Higher comp [within reason] will give greater power/efficiency for a given capacity at full throttle. At part throttle higher comp is not really playing a part here as we are not filling the cylinder with fuel air mixture, burn efficiency is at play here, chamber design, an active charge and fuel/i...

Re: When does custom porting become beneficial?

Odd ball package Class racing Something really weirdly specific (power wise, or just want to spend the money) You V8 guys have some wonderful stuff available to you OTS that if you’re not limited by rules or availability, makes almost no sense to go custom. FYI: I consider CNC packages from people l...

 Possible. It won some events in one of Paul Gentilozzi's cars. It has been fun to disassemble. Would love to know what the build sheet / cam specs look like for one of those of that era. Warp, you ever get to play with these cars? I'll see if I can't get around to putting the degree wheel ...

those cars were 80" wide with 28" of rubber on the rear....lol. there was some lateral Gs. We are putting together our own fox body tube chassis trans am car to go vintage race. most of those guys with their sn bodied cars are running 400" windsors. we are gonna run the c3 headed 308...

Re: Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?

Buying electronics, I’ve always bought refurbs direct from the manufacturer. Usually you end up with something that is very low use, and has been gone through better than from the factory floor for much cheaper.

Depending on how Holley does the refurbs (in house?), it may be the same.

from a $60k winning scca 308" sbf trans am engine build from the late 90s. Figure near 2 lateral g’s, even in the late 90s, with spikes over that from hitting curbs. Part throttle to feeding in throttle at that time as well. Also, most US road courses are clockwise, so usually more right hand ...

Re: NASCAR Truck engies on a road course

In 2004 the cup engines were turning 10k plus. I was doing the Arca deal with a then 17 year old Kyle Busch. We had a flat tappet Cup engine in the car doing development for the Cup series. We raced Pocono with a 4.33 gear and a .91 overdrive turning 10,400 in every gear. That is until we got taken...

Re: NASCAR Truck engies on a road course

Thank you sir, but that really is surprising to me. Seems like an IROC in the Craftsman Truck Series ? It’s a driver development series, IMO, it should be mostly spec. Why should the series be mostly spec ? What is the reason behind that thought process ?? It’s a cost controlled series which has tu...

Re: NASCAR Truck engies on a road course

Do you think Yates might be turning up the Fords that much more than the Chevy?Tom Not at all. The aero, engines, gear ratios, etc. are all pretty much spec and the differences between them all is hundredths of a percent in performance, and mostly related to set up / driver talent. Pretty sure the ...
