Re: SBC 355 AND 406 CYLINDER BORE LIFESPAN

Outside of torque / power, parts availability, cooling ability, bore stability, and a myriad other things, calculate piston speed and use a histogram of expected rpm. Also pretty easy to get a rough idea of side force with a spreadsheet.

Re: pretty good cam video

Oh, the problem is "wobbelin" :D Watching that, is like listening to your Barber explain Cold Fusion. I sold those guys a roller cam back in 2014. I wish I knew they had a cam grinder. #-o You can't look at lobe taper or lifter crown as individual specs. For every lifter crown radius, the...

Re: Work in progress: A460 Ford CNC porting project

A work in Progress- Flow bench revisited to cross check numbers. Tuesday spent sometime back on the SuperFlow 600 to check a few things - Three different intake valves, two different seat cuts and just for the hell of it four different flow fixtures. The baseline flow fixture was the alumi one I ma...

Re: Work in progress: A460 Ford CNC porting project

Love that you’re flowing these with the tunnel ram port fixture. In a built engine, that’s how the port is actually going to see see flow paths.

Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit

Watch the prices for non knockoffs rise . I may be wrong but the knockoffs do help hold down prices. Please don't misunderstand,I am not in favor of cheap crap or even quality outright knockoffs . They do serve a purpose however. Companies that innovate, do research and development have to recupera...

Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

I don’t know how anyone can look at that graph and think “this is a good test, let me put it on Youtube”. Its the ongoing quest for relevancy that drives it! :D I’d like to think in 2024 we’d still have good content being made and shared, but this is all that seems to be left in the dust of the int...

Would you expect anything else from that camp?

Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

Based on the flow curve and cross sectional areas, im not convinced the heads fit the engine well. WAG; Maybe the air flows through the valve throat in such a way that it blocks the flow zone, reduces the available area and chokes the engine? :-k -juhana If you work on a rules restricted engine, th...

Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

DD49CF24-2C89-4064-9210-6E069EA0604A.png Something seems wonky here. I’ve never see an engine fall off dramatically and level off like that without something being wrong. If the air is reaching a critical velocity from being undersized, it will start falling off and remain falling off. Are they sur...

Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

Richard Holdener doesn't have an opinion, he has a dyno. The 2.165/1.590-inch valve combo in this lsa test also responded favourably power wise to a 108* lsa https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/1506-lobe-separation-angle-explained-and-how-it-affects-horsepower/ It’s a wide open throttle dyno test fro...

Re: Port Energy Anomoly?

Not saying DV did this but chassis dynos are extremely easy to manipulate. Years ago back when the Fox body Mustangs were all the rage and chassis dynos were relatively "new" there was a guy in New Jersey who had one in his Shop. He was in the Mustang magazines all the time. His business ...

Re: Datsun R 16 head porting advice?

Aaron Kelly is getting about 185bhp from a full prep, SCCA GT spec A13. Mike Jones does cams for Aaron as well.

The R16 has to have a SIR, correct? Unless you’re doing vintage now.

Re: Datsun R 16 head porting advice?

....on the upside tho, apparently Rebello in California is getting 180 - 185+ hp from these engines at 6500-6800 rpm, so....there is that. A 150 HP engine on Rebello's dyno would show 200+ HP . You can't believe anything they state as to HP. It's all marketing. They were claiming an L6 engine combo...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?

Higher comp [within reason] will give greater power/efficiency for a given capacity at full throttle. At part throttle higher comp is not really playing a part here as we are not filling the cylinder with fuel air mixture, burn efficiency is at play here, chamber design, an active charge and fuel/i...

Re: When does custom porting become beneficial?

Odd ball package Class racing Something really weirdly specific (power wise, or just want to spend the money) You V8 guys have some wonderful stuff available to you OTS that if you’re not limited by rules or availability, makes almost no sense to go custom. FYI: I consider CNC packages from people l...
