Turns out it was the power valve. Sorry it took so long to report what fixed.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Re: Rotating assembly
I already have the block. It was done by Carl Hinkson. Very happy with it.
Old rotating assembly was Mahle pistons, Howards rods and compstar crank.
Was wanting personal experience from others on different brands.

Re: Rotating assembly
I have had good luck with the Mahle pistons I am using now.
I can't find them in 2618 material for my application and don't want to use the 4032.
The CP pistons look nice.

Rotating assembly
Upgrading my 385 sbc this winter. Going to 3.875 stroke and 4.125 bore. My question is about the rotating assembly. Which one: Scat, Manley, or howards crank? Scat or compstar h beam rods? Howards or CP pistons? They are all around the same price. Is any one better than the other? This will be a pum...

Re: Adding overdrive gear and lower rear gear
Your math looks pretty close. I come up with 7 rpm increase. not 70 rpm at 80 mph like you did. Everything else looks correct.
You didn't figure in the price of the rear end swap in your budget?

The older shop manuals like the Chilton books had the id numbers for most engines.

Re: Lunati voodoo solid roller camshaft ?
I have two of them. One is billet and one is cast core. I believe it's a toss up if you order without specifying which one you want. If you don't ask or don't specify when you order don't you kinda deserve what you get? So what is the difference in cost? cast core? $$$? billet core? $$$? billet cor...

Mounting fuel filter
Is it acceptable to mount a canister style fuel filter in the engine compartment?
I want to move it from under the car off the frame to clean up the look from behind my car.
I was wondering if it's ok to put it on the fire wall with a heat shield around it?

If you have a 6000 rpm max I would use the dual plane. You wont be losing anything.
