For me it looks that it's doable but the time it takes makes it far from practical.

First of all there is nothing wrong with pilots and ball head.
I have used (old) Mira and consider to upgrade my tooling. Just like also to hear more comments if someone works without pilots. Why and what issues they have faced before make the decision about the set up.

Hello all, Firstly I'm pleased all the replies and comments and hopefully more of them coming. If the idea cannot stand the criticism then it's not good enough or reasonable. Thanks for your reply, That is THE question. Idea was at first to get the valve guide straight up (more or less) with a spirit leveler and then sweep inside the guide to verify that and also x/y. I don't know is that possible to learn to do in a practical time but the idea was to minimize the moving...

Hello,
If someone is cutting seats without pilot what kind of seat cutter holder you are using in a mill?
Positioning can and will take a time but would it be possible to end up better quality with rigid machine vs. pilot during cutting?
