Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

As an additional note I had put the COMP lifter bore grooves in these lifter bores and I was beginning to doubt that decision but this proves that block oiling was NOT the issue. Very possible that the 850 Comp lifter oil band is just too wide and drops too low to effectively seal?? But I can guaran...

Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

Well I pulled out the Comp 850 lifters, they are noticeably spongy in the plungers and these Howard’s are not at all spongy just new out of the box. Take a look at the oil band location and compared the two oil port locations as well. Comp 850 on the left. Howard’s 91113 on right. These new lifters ...

Has anyone tried this mod for hydraulic lifter noise?
I have def not seen this until now. Def had not heard of anyone having lifter "lack of pump" issues with these Dart blocks either. Wish I had seen this two years ago.

Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

Wheelsup330 , are you running a mechanical fuel pump ? If yes it could be the fuel pumps arm spring is broken / weak or the arm has clearance to the cam eccentric. Negative its running on a in-tank pump with a sniper, which I thought it was possible this was some "injector tick" but after...

When it comes to quiet operation..........Hydraulic roller lifters “are like a box of chocolates” One of my favorite examples of how noisy they can get: https://m.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=83&v=ol7XPJVqvz8&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.forabodiesonly.com%2Fmopar%2Fthreads%2F...

Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

Originally set all this up to be a COMP package, At the time of this build, comp had zero cores available and no PO cut to buy cores for at least 6 months, to get a core to grind a new cam !! So I went with Erson who had dozens of cores on the shelf. This is a 1.0 BC Erson grind, lobes RH298/365 RH3...

Ive got a set of Howards 91113 lifters coming on a freight plane from the W/D out of town. We'll see what they do.

Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

If you are "old school" you could have bought a comp XR solid roller street cam. Very tame valvetrain noise when lash is set a hair tighter than cam card. eg: .012"-.014" The lash stays set. More go for the $$ Some people who get fed up with noisey inconsistant hyd roller lifter...

Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

How long have you run it, sounds like the lifters haven't filled, not smothered in assembly grease like I see people using these days are they ? Its been run about an hour now between all the FITECH issues and misc. Thats kinda what it acts like is that its not filling the lifters but it oils up al...

Yes its basically noisy right from the time it lights off. Sounds like a solid cam. Run it till the thermostat is open and warmed up still not much change.

30wt break in oil.
I turned it down to a full turn preload and still thrashing like a poorly adjusted solid cam.

Re: 850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

Yeah its noisy all the time, but slightly more noticeable when warm. Funny thing is that its not much difference, from the 1/8 turn setting to 1/2 turn. Which surprised me. I thought it would cure the noise.

850-16 Comp Hyd Roller Lifters ticking SHP/SBC

People having any problems with these OE performance replacement lifter in the SHP block? I built a new SHP hot street 427 combo recently (pre covid parts) and took a year and a half to build the the rest of the car. Put it all together and got it fired up after dozens of FITech failures, and headac...

Small Base Cam with COMP 850 Lifter - SHP

Hey I'm looking at the situation with a 1.0 base cam in a SBC SHP 427 and the 850-16 COMP lifter. I see they are calling it a LS7 replacement lifter and they appear to only drop about -.085 from flush in the lifter guides. Seems like this would be fine, since they are more than 50% of the guide bar ...

Re: SBC tunnel ram

Thank you, unfortunately I won’t have before and after results and the only dyno near me is a chassis dyno but should be able to get me a baseline. The time slip will be my primary indicator of results as that is what will tell me what I’m after. My own on track testing with a 406 combo that was ne...
