Re: Reuse ARP Rod Bolts?

Sounds like my best bet is to leave them alone and check the filter. Would an oil analysis be a worthwhile tool to detect abnormally high levels of wear metals that would give me some peace of mind? The oil and filter only have 3 runs on them at this point (have been doing some oil level and viscosi...

Reuse ARP Rod Bolts?

This winter I would like to inspect main and rod bearings while I have the engine out. What is the consensus on reusing ARP2000 rod cap screws in Oliver rods? Procharged SBC with 5 dyno runs, about 10 street miles, and 15 dragstrip passes. Unfortunately I do not have the original free length of the ...

Re: Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

Quick testing update from this past weekend: Run 1: Disconnected accumulator, drained 2 qts of oil for a total of 6qts. in engine. Oil pressure rose with RPM until the top of 2nd gear, where it fell back down to around 30psi for the remainder of the run, which is the same pressure it finished with ...

Re: Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

What was the pump screen to pan floor clearance number? Accumulator isn’t necessary and as the pressure falls it fills up the pan, creating a windage issue. I’ve run both the wide sump Moroso pan and the narrow sump power pan from Milodon 31167. Used both the M55 and M55HV with the Z 28 spring. Bot...

smeg wrote: Wed Sep 01, 2021 7:49 pm I had this exact same problem many years ago although I was reving it higher than you 9000 rpm. I did fix it after lots of head scratching. Do you have a HV oil pump on this engine?
Yes, the pump is a Moroso billet unit, P/N 22171.

Why would you go to a 180 thermostat? That is going backwards IMO.

Thinking, at least in the short term, it would allow the oil to get a little warmer and allow easier drainback. Maybe not needed though with a thinner weight oil?

Re: Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

How do you have your accumulator set up? (Pressure switch etc. You can use a remote pressurized reservoir to allow a high gas pressure to drive the piston throughout its stroke.) Does the car remain level throughout the run? How many Gs are you pulling during the run? Did you test your pan by filli...

Re: Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

Thank you guys, these are all great things to think about. I should have included the bearing clearances. The mains are 0.0030-0.0031 and the rods are 0.0026-0.0027 (steel rods). The recommendation for 20W50 oil came from Brad Penn. I don't mind running the car a little warmer, or trying a lighter w...

Re: Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

Is the pump too efficient? Is it pumping so much oil that it's accumulating so much in the valve covers etc while not returning enough to the pickup? This was a concern of mine. I question if the Moroso pump is pumping too much oil to the top end without adequate time to drain back. Also, I have be...

Re: Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

No vacuum pump, just two -12 lines to separate breather cans. 3.750” stroke. If we do get to go to the track once more this year, I’m going to drain and shut off the accumulator, and drain 2 qts from the engine for a total of 6. Then if there’s no improvement I’ll remove 1/2qt at a time down to 5qt ...

Oil Drainback/Windage Issues

Seeking feedback on a falling oil pressure problem as shown in the Racepak graph below, where the light blue line is the pressure. Oil pressure starts out good at 75psi at the line, but as you can see gradually falls down to roughly 30psi towards the end of the run. This is a Procharged SBC, Dart Li...

Kevin, where would one find these graphs? I poked around on Racepak's website, but couldn't locate them.
