Re: AMC cylinder head project

Man those look good! =D> Does it have two spark plug holes are or those head bolt holes and if those are head bolts holes how do you put a nut on them and tighten them(the holes on the exhaust side)But now the old AMC will have a canted valve head for some. Looks like a spark plug hole and 2 bolt ho...

Re: rpm-act

Then don't modify an emissions-certified engine. Remove it and install a dedicated race engine that was never EPA certified. Then they can't get you for anything like tampering with emissions systems or removing them. Seems like a simple solution to a problem that's been around for 30+ years https:/...

Re: Speedmaster blocks....whats the skinny on these?

I was looking at getting a 351W aluminum Speedmaster block. There was a thread on YB about this block and there was one guy who’d aquired one and commented on the quality after inspectino & measuring. He said «it was all over the place» and returned the block. (And got a Dart piece instead). That’s...

Re: Speedmaster blocks....whats the skinny on these?

https://www.nytimes.com/1992/11/04/business/company-news-china-to-buy-used-mill-a-new-approach-to-exporting-steel.html This why you have been seeing a lot parts being manufactured in China. What does an article from 1992 that's about something that started in the 80s have to do with China making mo...

Re: DI Engines: Air Velocity is Dead? Long Live Air Velocity!

In this article from July 2019, they state that inlet velocity is no longer crucial for maintaining fuel in suspension so there is little concern over port velocity anymore. Their main concern is airflow at the moment. Makes you wonder if GM did testing on flow with more velocity vs the same flow wi...

Re: GM 396 cylinder notches

they never made a 327 4 bolt. you could make one 1968 up 327 large journal. Supposedly, they came in Massey Ferguson combines. That's the explanation I've seen multiple times. It would explain why there's no documentation of one in GM cars & trucks. I realize that's a convenient explanation but who...

Re: Shelf life of unopened synthetic "racing" engine oil?

I did some generic searching for "shelf life of synthetic motor oil", since I have more than a case of "good stuff" that's at least 10 years old sitting on the shelf in my climate-controlled basement. FWIW, I define "good stuff" as having cost me about $10 (or more) per quart. Some manufacturers (A...

Re: Machined Valve Locks Quality

I doubt you're just a magnet. It's likely where you source your parts from, trying to get what you believe are "deals". Stop trying to find the cheapest part you can every time.

Re: Max dynamic compression on 93 octane?

Hi, Stan. No; crank is at the shop getting balanced. Has taken close to a year... Yes- I thought the lash had to be calculated in just after I posted the last answer. So; cam data gives timing figures with lash included @ 050 but then- seat timing is given at the lifter; no lash included. What that...

Re: Gary "Gosfast" Sharkey,RIP

Rest in Peace, Gary in N.Y. This is so weird. I've never met many of the guys we always see around car forums(like PDQ67, GOSFAST, Big Joe Sherman, & others) but I know of and talked to guys here and there throughout the years. Still, it sucks every time I see one of these posts. It's like losing so...

Re: Engine Race Oil

What's the actual application? What's the rod and main bearing clearances? What's your max oil temp? What's your oil capacity? What country are you in? The ideal oil is different for every application. You wouldn't want to put an oil with a low pressure-viscosity coefficient in a high boost or nitr...
