Re: Main cap and cylinder head studs.

All old OEM GM blocks need align honing and more so if adding studs. No such thing as 3482 caps you must mean 2482 caps which were GM's performance 4 bolt caps in the day, Pay attention the oil feed hole from to the cam journal is only 3/16 hole, Weird the hole from the cam bearing to the mains is ...

Re: Main cap and cylinder head studs.

I'm buying parts for a higher compression then I have ever done 331 sbc and run it on the street with E-85, so I'm leaning heavy to the idea to use cylinder head studs never used any or main studs before. The machinest said my block 010/020 with the 3482 caps the mains he said were in spec I could ...

Thanks for all the replies, looking at that picture sure makes me wish there was no such thing as the pushrod pinch.

Re: What is cylinder head choke

That sounds right all I can read about it seems sbc have problems at the pushrod pinch and bbc have a problem with restriction at the valve area to how many cubes they have compaired to valve size.

What is cylinder head choke

What is happening when say a sbc cylinder head chokes at the pushrod pinch. I assume by choke it's what it says the head cant flow anymore air regardless how big the cam is.

Re: 195 or 210 profiler

IMO the 195cc is a better head. More material and better shape. The pinch are is sized almost perfectly for what they flow. If you don't make them flow anymore, I'd leave it. Alright mr speirs being as I wont be opening the valve to extremes would it be better to get the 2.05 valve in the 195 head....

Re: 195 or 210 profiler

I'm either going to buy a C3 and try to lighten the hell out of it or what I really want to do is a 68 to 73 opel GT a lot more work to make the opel work right.

195 or 210 profiler

From a money standpoint I think the as cast profiler head is what I want for a high rpm 331 chevy build. When I look at wallace racing it shows a pretty big size minimum cross section for 7800 rpm. I'm leaning torwards there 195 head and possibly needing to enlarge the pushrod pinch area. Is the 210...

Re: 1978 454 solid cam, all street..

The OP stated he wanted off idle tq and 18 inches vacuum 236 .050 not going to do either and would be a mess with 2.87 rear gears.

Great street cam, ran high 11's in my Camaro with 7.9 comp and 236 Peanut Port heads.
Sounds like a nice time card, you had a 2.87 rear ?

4340 vs 8620

4340 steel looks like it would be better for making a camshaft out of then 8620. Is this correct, do they make 4340 steel camshafts ? If not why ?
