Re: Pondering about flathead potentials

That welded head looks like something I did many moons ago.
CNC machines made it much easier these days.

Re: Pondering about flathead potentials

Well I wish I knew how to draw you a picture on this thing but the time is drawing near for me to build my own “dream engine” based on a Flathead Ford. My goal is 1 horsepower per cubic inch N/A. That was done many times in the 50's and driven on the street but remember, we had 106 street gas then....

jed wrote: Tue Oct 26, 2021 2:10 pm Pete can you give any information on time and location where a tear down might take place. I am sure I can arrange my schedule to be there.
Almost any race track where money is involved in winning the A main.
Also at any LSR event.

A good way to learn is be at tear down after something impressive has happened.

Re: Cam Guru Help, Correct lifter to lobe offset & lobe widt

If you are going to talk about flat face lifters, you need to get some terminology straightened out. It really makes a difference. Radius means SPHERICAL or as in curved or as in a ball bearing type surface. Tapered means cone shaped as the face of most modern so called flat lifters. Flat means no c...

Re: Pondering about flathead potentials

I have a 226” Ford “H” model Flathead six I’d love to put in something like a Model A roadster. I think a basic rebuild with a wee bit more compression a couple carbs and split exhaust backed up by a modern 5 speed gearbox would be so cool. > If you think it is cool, it is. When I think of all the ...

The Alamask had no affect on the tune.
The nitro sure did though.

Re: Offy?

Bill, that was probably Bobby Meeks; famous for nitromethane V-8 60's in midgets. Used some type of oil additive that smelled like shoe polish to hide the nitro odor. Meeks was probably the first to use that additive except it was used in the fuel. It was later named "Alamask". Extremely ...

Re: WTB, Roller cams

Hi Mike, Not exactly what you want but I thought I would mention it. I have a steel billet for a 430 Ford with a Schnieder 32R (roller) grind on it. It only has .316 lift but could be reground to something modern. It has old cosmoline on it and a few very small rust pits, the type of which would cle...

If you ask your question to 6 different guys, including me, you will get 10 different answers.
Why not ask the guy that runs this forum?? He is as good as any around and it would help support the forum.

I talked to Isky and he said he dropped development of those heads because of not enough interest to afford to develop them.
He doesn't know where any of them are now.

Re: Why no Ardun hemi head SBC conversion?

As a bit of trivia, In the 60's Ed iskenderian made several sets of single cam (per head) desmodromic heads for the SBC. They were very successful in tests. He advertised them in several magazines for a brief period but apparently the market was not ready for them so he didn't persue it. That would ...

I would agree normally but I only have data on large flatheads, 315 ci or more. Nowdays 321. It works.
